1st Champion's Tour Gleneagles - Anyone go?

Yup I went as I won tickets on HnH would you believe!!

Anyhoo, I went last year and I am so glad I didn't pay for my tickets this year.

Last year I thought it was excellent, useful and entertaining.

It lacked the professional slickness from last year maybe because it was their first night I don't know.

The atmosphere in Gleneagles was flat and lots of empty seats. I don't know what they were trying to achieve as they had some geezer in jeans and a fleece singing who wasn't that good to be honest.

Two dolly birds flinging themselves about on ponies where one even fell off and they wondered why the crowd wouldn't get behind them taking their kit off when 90% of the audience was female.(I know its been a while but females in long boots and hot pants still won't turn me to the other side!!) Only decent thing about them was the minute where the ponies danced with them as that was quite good.

The arena party looked as though it had been released from Barlinnie Prison for the evening as they slopped about in scruffs putting up fences.

Geoff gooned about too much when Ollie was trying to pass on training tips.
Overall, pretty disappointing I'm afraid. I had 2 friends with me who never went last year and they thought it was just OK.

However, only positive thing was that Ollie had this lovely 5 year old that I thought was rather impressive and could have taken him home with me.

So poor report from me!:(

Soory to hi-jack post-

Flying Coo if you are who I thnk you are - yes I got your cheque for David.

If you are not who I think you are - sorry!

i was there - my first time - it was fine - entertaining - but not fabulous if that makes sense? glad i've been but not worth going again - i'd rather have got more training tips tbh... i did laugh quite a bit though so not all bad :)

Yes, I was there too. I did look up the 5 year old this morning, 4 events all DC (2PN and 2Nov) He could definitely come home with me! Unlike the random guy in jeans singing - What was he on?

It was all too silly and unprofessional. I also got annoyed that they started late and even mentioned how far behind they were yet they still strung the interval out for ever to try and get people to buy merchanise and have their photo taken.

All in all, I was very disappointed. It cost £23 per person and I got the feeling that their main motivation was to make money.

Even the choice of horses that Oil brought was all about him and which horses would gain from the experience rather than the ones that would have been good for us (the paying public) to learn from. I knew he would not bring top horses but still expected more.

Dear Oh Dear has it taken you this long???

Cheers for letting me know about cheque the Flying "Dumb Blonde" Coo!!!!

im going soon..... isit really that bad??

oh dear.....

how long does it all last for??

not sure what to expect - i just want to stare at oliver T all night :D

I went to the first one and was pleasantly surprised. I thought Oli T passed on lots of handy training tips and was very entertaining. If I remember rightly OT didn't have big name horses with him then either but I felt a lot was to be gained seeing him ride new and young horses.

I think Geoff B is entertaining the first time you see him but once you've seen him once you've heard all his material... I didn't get tickets this time round solely because of that reason; I would have went if it was just an evening demo with OT. However, having read the review above I'm glad I didn't! Definitely sounds like it was just an opportunity to cash in.

I'm going to the Yogi B lecture/demo on Friday and Funnell Factor 2 at Gleneagles this month so hope they are better!

Started about 7.45 and finished just before 11pm. But of that I'd say 1 hr 30 was Oil and Geoff, 30 mins the vaulting girls, 30 mins the bloke with the singing and also playing old video clips and the rest the interval

i wasn't sat by either of you was i?? lol i was having a good grump to the lady sat next to me about the interval/singer/vids etc.....

I was there and quite dissappointed.
Last years was brilliant and i would have gone again if i could,
this year...real let down. Unprofessional, dangerous (geoff's horse taking string with it at end canter round) and geoff trying too hard to get laughs and Oli boring people trying to teach.
All good if you didn't expect more like i did.
Difficult for them to do it 2nd year running but i def think more effort could have gone into it!!
LOVED the dancing ponies but otherwise felt they were out of place.
Singer: no comment!!!

Yogi B - http://www.gleneagles.com/prices-am...s/retraining-the-racehorse-with-yogi-breisner

Pay at the door, £15, and includes free £16.99 DVD; aimed at re-schooling ex-racers but imagine a lot of it would be applicable for all. Think there are still spaces; I said there would be 4 of us but 1 is stuck in USA so def at least one space! This is Friday starting at 7

Funnell Factor 2 - http://www.horseandrideruk.com/shop/funnell-factor-2-tour

£20 in advance and £25 on the door, no idea how many left but you can call 01428 601 020 to buy a ticket. This is Saturday 27 Nov

:)

hmmmm... you wouldnt have an vested interest in the above would you TPO?!!!! seems a bit odd that you would be joining in a rant about one tour even though you say you havent been to it this time and then giving full and precise details of both of the above.....?

No links at all to any of the demos that I am attending and, like I said, I went to the previous Champions Tour. If you read my original post correctly I didn't "rant" about the Champions Tour; I said I found Oli informative, liked the horses he brought andenjoyed it but as I had already seen GB's "routine" several times it was for that reason alone that I didn't go to this one.

I wouldn't say precise, I'd say look at the Gleneagles website... I was responding in reply to a direct question from another forum user.

Don't give up the day job JJ, the P.I. thing isn't working out so well! Now if you want to talk about stealth marketing why don't you post some more about Net-tex calmer or saracen feeds or snuggy hoods or a certain yard? I could understand if my previous posts were full of ROR/Yogi B or Funnell posts but they aren't so just steady on the (totally unfounded) accusations from now on, eh?

Thanks TPO. Just saw this so not sure I can get horses done then haul ass up to Gleneagles in time for tonight. Shame though :( Sorry my question caused you grief

No worries N_L_M; it was a good night and Yogi was really, really good. Hopefully they'll come back next year!

I went last night to see Geoff and Oli and tbh wasnt that impressed, certainly didnt learn anything. I would have happily taken home some of the 5 year olds.

Saw Geoff and Oliver on their Champions Tour and yes they did 'Dare to be Different' but that's OK isn't it? Thought it was a great entertaining evening, and well done them for trying to appeal to a wider audience. There was something from everyone, and the kids certainly seemed to enjoy themselves.

I spoke to my friend who works at Gleneagles (i used to work up there too) she said that Geoff just jokes on like he always does, Ollie had a good horse but drones like always, and the rest of it was irrelevant.

she didnt mind though cause she got to see it for free, and meet Ollie after .... (i dont see the attraction but oh well!)

Now _Loves_Mares - where about in Edinburgh are you?
