1st Clip

I did my TB mares first clip last Saturday and I clipped the pony I have in (little connermara X type) today! Think first clips are done around Oct/nov time..

If I was hunting I did my first clip for the first Cubbing Meet of the season, correct or not, I hate sweaty horses, otherwise I do it when the horse starts to sweat during work, as far as I am concerned there is no time scale, and I have never known clipping affect their summer coats. I clip right into Spring and small ponies used to have their winter coats taken right off in April, I had no patience with moulting ponies before showing season got into gear.

For the first time in five years I have just given a horse a tiny bib clip (I would have rather taken the lot off) as she is only a hack and although she's good, she's a flipping 'Twitcher' I hate twitchers, I know they can't help it, but for a clipping perfectionist like me it is very frustrating, her legs are a mess:mad::( Sorry, bit off topic there.

some of mine are on second and third clips. depends on how hairy your horse is and what his workload is like. the earlier you start to clip the more clips you have to do, as the coat is growing fast with the declining daylight.
