Hello, I have gundog type black lab that I got as he didn't make the grade to be an army dog! This is our first fireworks! Shamus was out in the garden when a firework went off so he barked (which he never does) and ran in the house shaking. What it the best stuff to get to keep them calm? Thanks :) x
 
A dap plug in or Dap collar, make a nice place for him to go and retreat too, when dogs feel threatened they do like security or to curl up somehwere, so if he has a crate, covering it and make a little den, radio and Tv on loud as we are closer to the event, a large bone to gnaw on (he may not if anxious) but its worth a try, dont make a fuss at all when he displays any fear, as you will only heighten the fear and give him more reason to believe there is good reason to be scared, exercise him during the day and more so just b4 the darkenss falls to burn some energy off him.
Scull cap and valerian/rescue remedy or the stronger drugs from your vet in the form of Diazapam/Acp if he really panics.
 
My bitch was scared of fireworks,so i went on you tube typed in fireworks,got a big bag of nice treats,turned you tube up a bit,fed treats,turned it up louder,bit of a reaction but more interested in treats,up full blast. totally ignored,cant say will work for all dogs though.

Now i have no reaction from fireworks at all,just raises her head an "chuffs" a little,have had no problems with my other 2.

Oooo some good advice there :) ill definately be trying that :)
The fireworks usually start evening time when i just get home so i sometimes get my dog and go to bed so hes cuddled up next to me under the covers where he feels safe and secure :)
