OK, the boyo has been broken for 6months now, works in a contact once warmed up 'most' of the time on a good day, on a stroppy sulky day precisely not a lot of the time!
Still struggling to canter a decent circle but at least allowing me to turn him left in trot now without throwing a wobbly and a temper tantrum.
Ok, am I being ambitious in taking him out to a walk & trot test??
Was thinking that:
1: Might jump out of boards and b****r off with me
2: Might have a spak attack in warm up
3: Might just be ace!
OK, need advice now... not expecting to come anywhere but feel that need to start getting him out before it becomes too scary...
What do you reckon?? Am I going to look an idiot?

We bought a project horse two years ago. He was unrideable when he came. After a few months we took him out affiliated straight away. We have no regrets because it showed him what went on at competitions. He behaves like an angel at shows. Just bite the bullet. By the way our little unrideable now has 30 BD points!

I would make sure he is ok to school with others in the ménage and that the competition you are going to is well organized (maybe adults only) then i would go you will only know how he behaves if you take him then you know what to work on for next time.

Go for it, you have nothing to loose, if anything you will be gaining from the experience! it's not like your going to ask for to much from him in walk, trot test!
If you don't put any pressure on either of you then you won't have anything to be dissapointed about.
just go and enjot it

Thanks guys...going to school tonight and then decide, comp,s in a couple of weeks so can not enter if he has another stupid spell.
Was all up for doing it, then the other week he had another 'moment' and completely forgot how to turn or halt for 3 days...grrr....youngsters... 3 steps forwards then 2 very large jumps backwards again! Why do we bother with them??
...suppose it's coz when it all comes together it feels great!

To be honest if it is just a walk and trot test there will be plenty of people with issues. Go for it and see how you go, some horses respond well to competition, and it will be a good starting place.

We've all exited the arena earlier than planned at least once, and most of us have had other "issues" too. Including not being able to stop, not being able to get canter etc etc etc

Go for it! It doesn't matter if you don't do well, just getting out and about is great for an inexperienced horse. Lots of horses do silly things in dressage tests anyway - it is all part of the learning experience. Fwiw, at our training centre, at one show day at least 3 people fell off during their test - and the last BD saw two riders come off in the warm-up!

Go for it!! I used to love doing dressage with my boy and i found that the feedback on my test sheet gave me something to focus on working towards for the next test. When i used to go there were all different people there with different horses at different levels. Its great experience and a good start for getting out and about. Good luck if you decide to go but more importantly enjoy it!!

just go for it you have to start somewhere everyone does my friends first dressage her boy done the majority of it on his hind legs and bucking he's so cheeky lol
