Hey! Officially my first thread in this section, as I have my first puppy as an adult!

I had dogs all my life as a kid, but when moving into a little flat as an adult, I could never get my own. After moving to our new house it was time for a puppy!

So please let me introduce Lady. 10 week old working type cocker spaniel :) She is one of those lovely little creatures in life who just absolutely adores everyone and everything she meets, sees the world as the most wonderful sunshiney happy place and is just a joy to be around.

I love her to bits, she is super smart, and picks everything up so fast. Although I can never quite tell if we are training her or her us...

She also loves our cats. The feeling is not mutal :P Ty the Korat is super interested in her, instigates games of chase, he chastises her to chase him, runs for 20 m then turns on her, and she runs away as he chases her back. He happily tests her capabilities, jumping on the furniture to see where she cant reach. Savana on the other hand, is having nothing to do with the puppy and is living upstairs :p

I will no doubt have some questions in the coming months, so nice to meet you all!

Puppy gate with cat bypass ;)

Cat bypass made me chuckle, especially the look on your cat's face, like he's showing it off on qvc or something. 'And here we have the patented cat bypass system, guaranteed to provide hours of solitary fun and prevent egress of even the most determined puppy...'

Beautiful puppy. I'm puppy-broody now. Aww.

adorable so cute

Oh, she's beautiful! Such a gorgeous colour. And I'm insanely jealous, I'd love a working cocker. Just out of interest (as I think you're quite near us), who did you get her from? Please PM if you'd prefer :)

Aww thank you all for the lovely comments! Ill pass the compliments to the cat too, he will be very smug :p

Gawguss! I love the middle picture with the cat looking at her in a way only scheming cats can :wink3:

haha yes indeed, he is always plotting and scheming, with his partner in crime.. to one day take over the world!
(parter in crime pic so she is not left out!)

Gosh, she's awfully pretty! Will you work her?

Thank you :)

From the one week we have had her I've noticed that she is awfully intelligent, and thrives on learning new things and her energy certainly needs directing!
I have been teaching her all the basics which she is picking up at an alarming rate! She has all but mastered toilet training and "sit" in a week! It might be an idea sometime in the future to train her for some of the more advanced working commands, if for nothing else than just keeping her brain engaged! So I may be asking many more questions on such matters very soon!

Working cockers/Springers are blooming clever dogs: one of ours is in dire need of training to keep him occupied or he's very naughty, purely because he's too clever to be 'just' a pet. Luckily he's got the other two to bounce off. We went through two trainers before finding a proper gun dog type who has worked miracles with him-and us! You could start asking her to retrieve/find things by scent, just for fun

Training gundogs is fun, even if you don't intend to work them. Remember no pressure though, especially when young. We didn't teach ours anything until 6 months, bar the usual doggy basics. Main thing is not to play tug of war with her, if she is carrying something, even if it is priceless and irreplaceable say good girl and take it gently!
She is a stunner.
