I'm planning to get my son and his pony out and about a couple of times before the weather changes now they're settling in together. Transport is booked for two local unaffiliated shows, one in just over a week and one later in September. I now just need to sort out the entries - and realised that the last time I went to a show it was about 25 years ago if not more - dust off the grubby pony from the field, hack over, have fun in an assortment of jumping and games classes (pony wasn't posh enough for showing!) in between eating chips and ice cream, then hacking home again with feet dangling!
I don't want to get it wrong, look like a fool, and upset child or pony. Could I ask the lovely experienced people here to walk me through how things work? both shows are being run by fairly prolific (as in they have something at one of the local centres most weekends between them) organisers, so I guess should be pretty standard. I've read the rules, it's more around things like:
How many classes is it ok to enter?
I was considering 3 plus clear round for the jumping show in a couple of weeks - (bottom hole cross pole, bottom hole and 30cm, all on lead rein) - pony has been to a couple of low level shows and schooled higher with old owner, although she's only 4, so I don't want to blow her brains - and I want it to be a good experience for both as son hasn't been to a show off the yard before. Clear round is also bottom hole. Likewise the other show, was hoping to do a clear round and the two tiny classes, and possibly a couple of in-hand, maybe M&M and junior handler (She's a Welsh C).
What should we wear?
Son has a tweed show jacket, assume that's fine - hat is fine (although I will double check tonight), and he's got beige jods and black jod boots. Is a white school shirt ok with a tie?
I assume it doesn't actually matter what I/husband wears to run around a course of tiny jumps?
If we do the in-hand classes, is she ok in her normal bridle (we've got a plain brown leather one, but the noseband and browband are raised, and noseband does have a flash loop on it that we don't use) or do I need to sort her out a hunter bridle? Not sure if we'll ever do much, and certainly not to any level - it's more just about a bit of experience for her and my son.
How does it actually work when we get to the venue?
Sorry if this sounds super silly - I'm just the kind of person that likes to know exactly how things happen, and normally I'd go along with a friend to watch a couple first before getting brave and entering my son, but in the current circumstances, helpers are limited and spectators not allowed! The September show you have to print and bring your number, not sure about the August one, can't see anything about it - will I look a fool for asking? or better off just buying a bridle disc as need one for September anyway!

I assume I enter the pony under her passport name rather than stable name?
Hope this makes sense, sorry it's a bit of an essay!
Thank you
