I am ploughing through this eventing adventure so I can one day say I am not rubbish at it!

I did a bad dressage on a bumpy ground (yes, I know that how it should be), show jumped at a silly speed over a course of jumps set on grass and nice hills

(again, yes I know that this is the way it is), then had some lovely refusals at fences 2,3
(documented here if someone wants to have a laugh: http://pets.webshots.com/video/3000952140095301171ENNiFK

AND THEN had one the most fantastic times ever over the rest of the course! Ok, I know it was only tiny comparing to what some of you jump and I wouldn't think twice of jumping show jumps three times as big but solids hmmmm
Anyway, wow - I really enjoyed it

If someone wants to have a look at the fences I took some pics when XC walking the day before the event (Littlefield Manor, Guildford, Surrey).

Well done! Once you got going, sounds like you were on a real roll!

Did fence 2 have a ditch in front of it? Cant see but looks like it maybe does? If so, rather harsh for that early on.

Well, I was meant to be on the RC team, but all except for two dropped out ..I dosed him up with calmer for the stressage but he gets sooo uptight about it so assume a very average test. Went into SJ , and he got stressy circling at the start so I trotted him at the first which he lazily took the pole off! Gahh! that jump was about a foot high lol. But he was so much nicer to SJ, we have been having training and I can say it paid off. He rubbed the plank too but I dont care, he was happy so I was too!
Into XC, everyone was having trouble with the first few jumps, but we flew!had issues turning to 4 and 5 hehe, overtook two people at 7/8, still flying...up the hill, stride out at that house! Then downhill, and er...parted company on the steps..was going far too fast, and he pecked a little. Am peeved for him that I didnt finish but Damn! Hes kamikaze XC!!
Did you have a nice day? Im looking forward to going back BSJA lol

Here is my full report if you fancy a longish read:

In short - I had similar problems in dressage - very tense but that is how he is now. SJ two down and way too fast, must do more jumping with various fillers as he didn't like them;)
XC - from 4th onwards he felt great. The 13a and b combination jumped lovely and the house up the hill and the fence downhill was great. He really gave me a lovely feeling and if he relaxes more in the dressage I will be tempted to take him affiliated but no earlier.
I wonder if I saw you - a big, dark bay horse, big stride and that sort of 'hurdling style' jumping?

If that was you I remember thinking 'blimey, this horsey must be a handful across country'

I'm going to wave and say hello

I'm only down the road from where Rex lives

I did that event last year and had an apalling day. It rained so we slipped round the dressage, I fell off after a nasty stop in the SJ and although they let us go xc even though we were eliminated, we retired at fence 4 after only actually happily jumping fence 2

Neddy was pleased to be back in his field when we got home

I shall read it in a second, my head is still feeling alittle 'tender' haha.
I dont think my horse has the head for stressage, I felt awful afterwards as he was so hot and blowing, compared to SJ when he breezed through. Yes, I saw some horses look at the fillers, and especially the last one, a lot of backing off. I walked the SJ last night and was tempted to move the double! WHY make it so short??!!
Great that you enjoyed yourself, was quite relaxed there I thought?

over the first, I wish he would pick up like that SJ!

I am absolutly peeing myself at the "hurdling" description..thats us..I wonder if you saw him shoot across the finish on his own, and me shouting for someone to "please catch my pony!!"
sorry for hijacking your post S_G

Yes I am at pullens, I have a long legged bay TB, who scatters poles and spooks fairly regular

Hopefully see you around and say hi
