i went 2 look at a 16.1 belgium warmblood at the weekend he was fantastic did every thing i wanted even loaded into my trailer and he has only ever traveled in lorry before i had him vetted 2 day 5 stage the vet said every thing ok but has a heart murmur graded 1-2 but it went after excersize i was not at vettng has it my own vet so he said not to worry has its quite common in warmbloods he has a good pedigree Sire Kannan and Grand sire Voltaire they have had hime for 3 years and only done riding club and local shows they said he came from a show jumping yard and will jump anything i only worried about the heart murmur i have left a deposit whic is returnable wat should i do he is a fantastic horse they are only selling because divorce

Ive heard of a horse eventing at JRN's (1*) very successfully with quite a rare heart murmur, never caused him a prob. If your vet says not to worry and he knows what you want the horse for, it wouldnt bother me TBH!

Oh and welcome!

Hi there,

This wouldn't put me off, especially as the vet said not to worry & it went after excercise.

i had a pony that developed a grade 4 heart murmer when very ill with colic, when she got into the equine hospital and was being treated it disappeared. only thing that would worry me is insurance would be funny about it

i have been on to the insurance company nfu they said they would insure for heart murmur if on vet report it said went after excersize

I have an 18 year old TB who I had vetted when I bought him at 3 and he was found to have a Grade 1 systolic heart murmur (sorry, can't remember if the report said it went away after exercise or not). He's still with us and can still do 0-60 in half a second!

My TB mare has a murmur - don't know what grade as she's never been vetted (bought her at 6 months old from the yard owner) - it was only discovered when the vet checked the heart before giving her a mild sedative for the dentist.
It's never caused a problem and she goes like a bat out of hell across country. The vet said it was quite normal in TBs/big horses.
