After my last post about 10 days ago about whether or not should a healthy horse be put down just cos his friend has to be, things changed - for the worst.
'Horse' was healthy until Friday last week when he suddenly appeared blind in his near side eye and was very stressed. The vet came and said he had a massive ulcer on his eye. How this happened is anyones guess?? His other eye was ok. He can get stressed very easily. After the long weekend of treating him 5 times a day, it became apparent that his stress levels were verging on a very dangerous horse - he kicks like hell and rears to box you. He had to be sedated on monday and he fought so hard he nearly collapsed. My dad called a stop to it. He had a non treatment day yesterday so he could chill and just be a horse. Meanwhile my uncle who owns Mac said his wieght had dropped quickly over the last 2 weeks, and said they can go together.
I got a phone call at 9am this morning so I went over and helped support my dad. The trailers brakes aren't working so the kennel man came out. Over very quickly, Horse first so he didn't stress. I gave them a whole pack of polos each and a large carrot - they went as happy as they could be - bless them.
I hope both Horse and Mac can now gallop free together and join up with my old horse Sunny as they were all good friends.

Oh I am so sorry to hear this and I did read your previous post too...such a shame but the right decision me thinks...

R.I.P Horse and Mac - run free together and have lots of fun up there

How very said. In the end, the decision was made for you.

It was the right decision.

RIP Mac and horse always together with sunny.

was the right decision.

sounds like the most difficult desicion was taken out of your hands, funny how things work out like that, it was meant to be. They have gone over rainbow bridge now and will have eachother. Hugs to you its always so sad, they were lucky to have you, you'll see them again someday. x

Read your last post on this - t'is terribly sad but i think the right thing was done. Nobody wants to drag old horses through the winter when they are unwell. I have shed a tear for them both - I'm a sentimental old fool but I'm sure they are happy together somewhere where the grass is green and the sun is shinning x

the right decision I believe - their future is together and happy and pain free rather than what they did face. Well done to all for being brave and putting the horses first - it would have been easy to carry on as they were just to avoid THAT decision.

Nonetheless, still traumatic for all of you and hope that tomorrow brings a brighter day for you
