My friends little Jack Russell was attacked yesterday by two Chocolate Labs. They were off their leads and my friends dog was on a lead. She has 3 puncture wounds, two on her back and one on her leg. She needed vet treatment.

The man said he'd pay for any bills but also said they've done it once before! They didn't respond when he called them and he had no control.

I think it should be reported ......... If they've done it before surely they should not be let off the lead!!

Question is, who do you report it to? Is it the local Police? I thought about the RSPCA but then it's not a welfare case so would they do anything?

The police, Porkie - and do it as soon as you can. If these dogs have done it before, it is absolutely inexcusable that this happened!!

Had a similar problem.

It needs to be reported to both the Police and the dog warden. Reason I say both, it that the owner who caused me such hassle had been variously reported to police or dog warden, but neither side had the other's information.

The police. If he has offered to pay then your friend should have his details to give to them too.

We had to do the same recently when my mums dog was attacked by our next door neighbours dog when it came flying through the garden fence. It didnt give us any pleasure at all to report it but it had to be done, we have a baby in the family, what if it attacked him-it doesnt bear thinking about. The dog has since been rehomed with no fuss or backlash on us. The owner was very apologetic and keen to help in any way.

Please do report this to the police. This seems to be more and more common these days and the more it's reported, the more the police might actually DO something.

Agree with the above, BOTH the police and dog warden.

I did this when my dog was attacked by a farmer's pack of dogs, she was bullied rather than bitten but it was terrifying at the time and I thought she was going to be a goner.

The police gave me an incident number and the dog warden visited to have a 'chat' - as there was no real damage - other than knocking both our confidence walking along public footpaths - the police could not do anything.

In your case actual damage has been done, so I would have thought the police will be more interested.

Hope you get this sorted out, the owner should have his dogs 'under control'.

Police and dog warden.
We had a similar situation where one of our dogs was attacked the other dog literally just went for our dogs chest and wouldn't let go... i don't think i have ever had to kick a dog so hard in my life as it just wasn't letting go, the owner was useless as well, didn't try and help at all!... a nasty hole in his chest and an expensive vet visit later, the police didn't seem to take much attention to it tbh.
No money off the owner, nothing from the police... we then saw it down at the yard!!

So, my friend has reported it to the Police AND the Dog Warden.

The Police have just called her back after first promising a visit to get a statement - and are now saying they are not interested as it is classed as a 'civil incident'.

and the dog warden hasn't phoned back!

Now what? We just let this man get away with having two dogs that attack another dog for no reason! Now say they do it again to another smaller or elderly dog that might not fair as well as her little tufty JR ??

Am very dissappointed in local Police :(

The police should have taken action under the dogs act 1971.
As they have clearly failed to do so you need to contact the chief constable of the area and advise him that your local police failed to take any action and ask him to investigate it. Also get a vets report to state the injury the loose dogs caused to the dog.
If the police continue to fail to take action then report it to your MP and also the RSPCA as it is a welfare issue as the dog was not properly under control at the time of the attack.

Keep phoning the dog warden and make a lot of noise about it!! My dog nearly lost a front leg in an attack by a staff who had 'got out'. The dog warden attended to collect the staff, but i was lucky that a pcso was passing at the time. I had to continually phone the warden after, he missed 3 meetings arranged by him and then after nearly a year, turned up at my house to apologize that he hadn't filled in the correct forms at the time of the attack ( i had been slightly injured too) and there was now nothing i could do. I lost nearly a thousand quid and am still too scared to walk my dog over 2 years later. I was so shell shocked I didn't follow it up with the council, and sadly, botrh the dogs owner and the warden got away scott free.

Badger them and follow up everything they say, to protect yourself as much as you can.

So sorry, hope the dog and owner are ok xxxxx
