I had my first lesson in 10 years last friday. I had walked around on a horse on christmas day, but not done any riding since and only walked. So out came this huge big cob, lovely horse, but so much bigger than I am used to. It was a plod though, so hard work to get it going. Eventually had a stick, just to get him to go a little bit better. (only holding it was enough to get him going) Lots of transistions, some rising trot, sitting trot, sitting trot without stirrups, some canter. Only had a few issues with the canter, but was apparently good enough to get into the riding level I wanted.
It took till yesterday evening to get rid of the pain. I could hardly walk on friday, let alone saturday. My oh had some fun watching me being in pain. So of course I was a bit worried as I signed up for another lesson this morning. This time was a 45 minute session and it was quite a lot of fun. Apparently I haven't unlearned most of the things and even when the giant horse (even bigger than friday) was throwing some bucks around and was generally a bit fresh and did not like waiting. Managed to sit through it all and get something out of him. Of course I have been focussing a lot more on me and balance than on the horse, but for the moment I am happy enough with that, a few more lessons I might actually get something more out of the horse.
Next week out for an hours hack and see how that goes. Pain today is a lot less than friday, so hopefully tomorrow isn't too bad either. I was just glad I am not as bad as I was expecting to be. Onwards we go.
