I know this has been asked before but I'm still not sure what to go for?

15hh Welsh d x, rising 4, broken and riding away - planning to use as a low level all rounder. No previous vetinary history or obvious issues.

Paying £2000

Would you get a 2 or 5 stage? Money is a bit tight but would stretch to a 5 stage.

Thank you 😊

For the difference in price I would have the 5 stage. It will pick up on some things a 2 stage would not, for example a bone spavin *may* be missed in a 2 stage but would be more noticeable after work then rest then another trot up.

When I have a vetting I do ask that if the horse has issues they stop straight away, so I only pay for a 2 stage.

Personally I would not go for X rays etc.

It is not just about the purchase price for me, it is about trying to prevent heartache.

A five buying the horse is the cheap bit anything that can flag up a bad one is worth every penny .
I had a horse I wanted to buy fail the vet last year expensive vetting 600 pounds horse failed imagine the money and heartache and time that 600 pounds saved .

Yes echo that. The price difference is not that great. And especially if you are buying a youngster the more in depth examination is well worth it. As with others I wouldn't personally go with X-rays or bloods (unless you are concerned about the seller). But the greater work up on and after exercise is absolutely essential.

You can’t not have bloods done at a five stage it’s standard procedure .

my mare was £2200. I went for 2*. Very happy with results and the outcome . I did get bloods developed to rule out Bute and calmer’s

There was only about £30 price difference between the two when I got mine vetted recently so worn the extra money for a more comprehensive vetting.

I had a 5 stage but it didn't pick upon bone spavin which came up in the first few months of having the horse. It is just a snapshot of a horse on any given day.having said that I had a 5 stage agin for my second horse

If I was vetting for the difference in money I would go for the 5 stage. I did have my last horse vetted, she passed with flying colours, the vet did say she was lovely but his only concern was she too cheap! His concerns were right, although physically sound I'd certainly not say she was mentally sound lol. I threw the towel in 6 mths later after getting through her napping etc, when I was well and truely launched and broke my jaw! Its so hard as you can only do your best when buying and pray everything turns out ok.
