How do i know i am in the correct two point position, without filming myself or being observed, i know you should hover slightly out of the saddle, but it always feels and looks different when your on a horse to thinking about it on the ground.

I think you're going to find it really, really difficult without some means of seeing what you're doing and how it looks.

If there's some magical means of developing a perfect xc position without instruction / constant self-analysis, I'd love to here it too. Sadly, I think this is why people who event invest so much money in training though :o

You can run checks, I think. So if you open your knees out, do you tip, if you remove your legs from the saddle where do you go, are you leaning on your hands (too far forwards), are your heels down (if getting them down is a struggle you need to bring your bum back a bit), does your bum touch the saddle at all (too long stirrups or too far back in the saddle), etc...

I don't think there is such a thing as such. The light seat you use to go down a hill will not be the same as the light seat you use to go up! Your lower leg needs to stay under tou but in terms of the angle between the horses neck and your torso it can vary. If you are balanced (which you will know by feel) then it is probably fine. You could let go of the reins as suggested, you would know quite quickly if you were balanced that way!
