I have come across a farmer who my boyfriend works for and he has bought 2 small ponies from market simply (quote) "to make me some money". Unfortunately the farmer hasn't got a clue, he is a beast and sheep farmer and is treating them just, feeding them grass cuttings and some sort of molasses feed for cattle.
They are very little handled and unbroken. They are both fillies biggest one is just under 14.hh,is bay with a white star on her face, she has a nasty scar on one of her front legs possibly from being hobbled or getting trapped in something, she is wearing a headcoller but is very nervous and took me 20 mins before i could get near her to touch her and she has literally been stroked on her neck thats it. Her age is deffinately under 3 but it was difficult for me to tell.
The smaller of the 2 is a foal, (not mother and daughter) i couldn't tell you how old it is, she is a chesnut with white legs and face.
If anyone out there would be able to take theese 2 pretty ponies on and treat them right in the way they deserve please get in touch as they will go for meat otherwise. I would have them but there is no room on my livery yard and i cannot afford them as i have a youngster of my own that is swallowing my money lol!
The farmer has asked £250 for the biggest and £100 for the foal but i have told him there not worth that due to them being like they are, however a horse is a horse to him unbroken or not but he is the 'dealing' sort so i'm sure a price could be agreed.
Please help me find a home for theese 2 pretty girls.
Many Thanks.

Trouble is he might make some money and do the same again if he thinks he can even sell them.

What a sad situation...if he doesnt like them he should rehome centre?Silly old fool(thats being polite)!

any idea what he paid for them ? you need to talk to him again tell him horses are not making any money 250 is quite a bit for something thats not been handled ( in this market ) and why do you think they will end up at slaughter has he said he is going to send them to slaughter ? doubt he will get 250 for meat money ! although not sure how heavy she is , such a shame : (

WHW need to be involved if he is feeding them grass cuttings and heaven knows what else before he kills them. Can't help with a home but good luck, at least the poor little mites have someone fighting their corner.

hun whilst I understand totally why you want to find them homes - and hun please what a lovely person you are to care - the WHW needs to be involved as he will do this time and time again and next time hun you may not be around. If you cant contact them as fella works for him get some one else to ring - he needs to be stopped now- but yet again an example of indiscrimate (sp) breeding - when will this stop but hope these little ponies find a good home or a forever peace fingers crossed xx

Unfortunately the best thing here is if no-one buys them and hes left stuck with them. If he sells and makes a little profit then he'll just buy more to sell on and maybe even start breeding them. If hes left with them on his hands then he'll need to think again. At Brightwells Leominster SEC D 's were going for as little as £40 each recently, filles and colts, even 3 yr olds were fetching less than £100 in some instances. People cant even give them away sometimes.

A friend and I are looking for two young project ponies and these may well fit the bill.

Perhaps you could post some more details, and PM me a contact number. :)

He paid less than £100 for both ... he thinks they're worth some as meat however they're not holding much weight. They are underweight but wouldnt be classed as a welfare case - I rang WHW, who advised they would give feeding guidelines at the moment, which I have already tried to tell him. Whether he has done this or not remains to be seen.
I am in the Notts/Leics border, the ponies are in Wymeswold in Leicestershire. Please PM for my contact details - would rather not give out phone number on national forum :)
Ideally I think they would probably need to go as a pair intially, I think they have been through too much together to be split up right now.

Thanks

Just to add, I have told him about the current market, how what he is expecting to get for these ponies is totally unrealistic at the moment etc etc. He is well aware that it wasnt a good move ... He actually approached me in the hope I would take them and break them for him - er, no!!! ... The ponies are quite pretty little things and deserve a good home. I have had strong words with him along the lines of 'Do NOT do this again!!!!' - cant do more than that.
