1st - feeling a bit paranoid about this whole pedigree health thing. I've got a rescue GSP bitch and just wondered if there was anything we need to keep an eye out for?? I've tried to research it but it just seems to say "generally a healthy breed but as with all pure breeds they can suffer from *big long list of ailments*"

Any help would be fab!!

2nd - TERRIER RACING!!!! Little Alfie is fast as f*ck and I can just imagine him miss behaving in the terrier racing at horse trials etc!!

Anyone know how you get into it??

Not sure about GSP's

But terrier racing is great fun.... most places its just done as a bit of fun and you enter on the day. Game fairs or fun dog shows usually, we have been to a few that have advertised it but then it never happens, bit of a shame really as our lot love it!! Some shows you just hold them on a line and let them go, others they have proper start boxes, we have taken ours a few times and our stud dog tends to just run over / through any other dog in his way! Last one we went to, he completely flattened another terrier in his eagerness to win.... it was our 2 that were attached to the rabbit skin at the end, they were playing tug of war and wouldn't let go!!!

GSP's can suffer with epilepsy. I've never known any with bad hips or eyes. And in general they are healthy dogs. But then they are generally bred to work and have no bizarre features that need refining for the show ring.

I do racing with my Terriers, they LOVE it! I usually run them on a Greyhound track at the Afghan racing, you can run any breed and its totally safe. Terrier racing at shows etc.. can be a bit scary as breeds like Patterdales and LAkies tend to fight!

You can find some info about where I run mine on my site, plus lots of pics for you if you are interested.
