1) Approx how many of the one tonne builders bags, filled with loose hay from the big round bales will = one small hay bale?

2) What month approx do you stop feeding horses hay, that live out 24/7?

cant' answer question 1 and question 2 depends on a lot of factors, a) how well did the horse winter? overweight/underweight? what the weather is like? and how well the grass is growing?

for me i will stop feeding hay in the field when the grass starts growing as my lad has cushings so we have to be careful of lamintus. but my lad lives in at night in winter. i will chuck him out when the weather gets above 10c at night so usually end of march beginning of april.

Well I have a summer and winter field. The summer field has been resting since beginning of September. There are 3 of them, 2 are good do-ers. I have enough hay until the end of March. So just wondering if I need to get in any haylage as emergency or whether they will be ok?

it would be an idea to have a continuation plan as we had a very cold snap in april this year so difficult to judge. as long as it is well sealed haylage would keep until next winter anyway

I dont use haylage on mine, never had the need too so if I can get away with not having it it would be ideal! But I am trying to remember when I stopped feeding hay last year and I just can't remember!!
