You my have gathered I have 2 stables and 4 horses! They all live out in the summer so it's not an issue then but come winter I have to bring two of them in, Tazz and Jack are the chosen two as Tazz is 23 now and Jack is dutch (say no more!) The two ponies are left out, they have a field shelter which they use allot but the shelter is down the field away from the stables so when their in there they can't see the other two (make sence? not sure!) Thing is Robbie is 9hh and can get under the electric fence(doesn't make a difference if its on or not!) so he duck the fence and stand outside the stables leaving Crystal in her own in the field, It breaks my heart to see her walking up and down the fence in all weathers just wanting to get to her friends.

What would you do?

Could you bring one lot in at night (the more wimpy) and the others in during the day? Or alternate them so one lot in one night the other lot the other night? This might stop the pony going under if he is having sometime in. Or are you able to move the shelter? Or put loads of fencing really low down and close together so he cant get through?

is there anyway you could move field shelter to a field here to the stables. then when robbie get out the other will still be able to see all the rest

I've had the fencing with 3 strands with the lowest about 3inchs from the floor, he just puts his nose under it, squells when it shocks him, them runs forwards and kind of chucks it over his neck!! He's a nightmere! I've tried til i've been on the verge of tears to keep him in the field.

The prob with bringing 2 in in the day is that Tazz, who stays in and Crystal who has to stay out are inseparable (sp) and Crystal hates been in the stable at the best of times never mind without her pal. Nightmere! I love all my horses but because thier the only ones at the yard, they've become so 'clicky'... take one away and all hell breaks loose!

Can't move the shelter as it got blown over a few years ago, its safe but a bit delicate(sp)! and where it is at the min is the only flat bit close to the stables

Could you not give them all acess to the field shelter and stables? As my two ponies share a stable obvisouly not with the door shut but they come and go together and aren't a problem as at the moment i have two stables and 3 horses so i leave there doors open day and night.

When I was in a similar situation I made the shelter into a stable by laying rubber matting down and then putting deeplittered straw bed on top. I put up three lines of electric fencing -which wasn't live as a 'gate'. This worked really well for me as it kept the ones living out with a roof and if the weather was really bad I actually kept them in during the day times too.
Now I have three stables and 6 horses with no shelter so when the weather is bad I have 3 in during the day and swap them at night.

Is it possble to let the two outside be able to wander into the stable yard at night? We have a similar situation but two stay out and two come in and neither outside can get under any fencing! However at one point we just had 3 and brought 2 in over night so allowed the other horse access to the stable yard and field and it worked fine. If the yard area is safe enough (ie no machinery etc around) then it should be fine like this (yes you may have a bit more mess to pick up on a morning)
