Hiya, i'm having a 2 stage vetting done on a horse i'm hopefully going to purchase.
Does anyone have any ideas of how much, roughly, it would cost in the Suffolk area?? I would take my own vet, who i've known for years and throroughly trust, but it's too far.
Also any suggestions as to any reliable vets in the area that anyone would recommend?
Thanks, Chloe

Usually it depends on distance vet has to travel, vets in this area charge £40 a call-out, includes up to 40 mins or so examination. An extra horse costs £15 for a brief check, more for a full exam. add VAT at 20%!
I sold a mare recently, it was £160 cash in hand for a 5 star vetting, he took over an hour, and it was 15 miles from his practice base. I thought £160 was a bargain, and in that case I would not have a two star as such a lot of the cost is the cost of visiting the yard.
If you confident of the vendor (and I would not buy a horse if I was not happy about the vendor) ask which is her vet, then phone them, explain the situation, and ask for tel number of another local equine practice. Ask to speak to their senior horse vet and go from there.
To me the most important thing is that the horse suits your needs, and it is vetted to meet your requirements. When selling my mare, I had to remind the examining vet that the mare was sold as a child's riding pony, I knew she had been sound for the 18 months I owned her, but he seemed bent on finding something wrong with her!
