Opinions please thank you :)

er muddy :D

Dont worry about nail holes and little bits breaking off, pretty is as pretty does with barefeet and so long as you dont have massive cracks you are trying to keep the pressure off then dont worry about titivating too much.

Be wary of over trimming and weakening the hoof walls as when this grows down you will have big trouble (speaking from experience here!)

early days, give it time and stick it out and you will be very pleased. dont worry about the chipping, the surfaces will stimulate growth in the foot anyway so they will soon grow out.

Like you, I am keen to do a bit of tidying up with a rasp.

I remember you said earlier that he was sound straight away after his shoes were removed. Are you able to work him so that he can wear his hooves himself?

Thanks all :)

I could work him, I have hoof boots for the road so could slap them on, BUT problem is my mare will have to let her adjust to the new fields and will ahve to get gates on them strong enough to hold her in them to be able to take him away :)

Once I have that all sorted and built him back up to riding him (older horse) then we will be out stomping the tarmac :)

Be very very cautious with the trimming, if possible walk him on the tarmac without hoofboots so he can wear the foot down himself instead. You will need to build this up slowly like any type of new work. Think of it as getting the feet fit :)

Thanks Foxy :)

We are going to go for a hack on thursday once they have both been out in the field another day :) Ill have to take them both (my mare needs walking anyway) but I may put his hoofboots on as they have not long resurfaced the roads around here and it has ALOT of loose gravelly tarmac floating on the top and I dont want his feet to be sore :)
