hi all,

looking for some help please, my two year old has suddenly decided to get big and brave and started nipping people. She has never bitten me or even tried to, just others tell me she is doing it.

does anyone have any suggestions on how to nip it in the bud?

Thank you!! :)

Mine was doing this, not biting just little nips to get attention i think. I just flicked the end of his nose with my fingers and a firm NO, he soon stopped.

She is not nipping you, what are other people doing to make her nippy when you are not there, that is what I would be asking. Does anyone else need to handle her as it is probably something they are causing and you cannot discipline her if she is good with you.

My mums 2yo is nipping at the moment. My fault though as I let my partner treat her. He thought it was amazing that he can get her to bow for a treat so I guess it has stemmed from there.

Do you think someone else is giving your horse treats or anything? Or maybe she’s just feeling a bit playful. I don’t know what I would tell everyone else to do as your idea of a firm tap and theres could be different. But if your 2yo goes to do it to you, I would just give a tap on the nose and an ‘ah ah’. Done the trick with mine.

well they said she is doing it mainly when they have food. i do give her treats sometimes but i always make her wait for them. bless her she just stands there until i give her it. i will also give her a treat when i take her into the field and get her to walk / stand / trot with me, but again, she waits until i give her it.

i trust the girls where i keep her with her life so i dont think they are doing anything wrong. They handle her regularly and she is very used to them but she wont let any of them groom her, which is strange. maybe she just trusts me so much more as i spend some much time with her everyday.
she is obviously just being a youngster and trying her luck with people she doesnt trust. hopefully a passing phase!
