just wanted some opinions and advice really, because the situation is slightly personal will be a bit brief i recently bought 2 yearlings one was 1 on the 10th of april the other will be 1 on july13th my mum was supposed to have one but after years of being on the wagon has fell off so to say so can not be around a yearling have roped my husband in and we have them both halter trained and accepting stable as well as picking up feet, they have been walked most days and accept buses trailers motorbikes etc, has any one ever tried to train 2 yearlings at the same time and if so what advice do you have feel that every thing is going well at the moment but do not want to end up with too much and ruin two potentially fantastic horses is it possible to do justice to 2 yearlings simultainously in the long term i can give at least 7 hours attention a day, just want to be reassured that it can be done kind regards nicola

Other than a decent routine, you dont need to do anything with a yearling.
You are in a perfect situation in that you have matched animals in terms of age that will play and burn off some of that energy.
Mine only come in, get fed, hooves picked, and turfed back out. At a year old thats all they need to be doing!

Sounds like you are doing a really good job as it is, so keep on what you are doing and don't worry about anything else for a couple more years, just as long as they are well handled you cann't go wrong.

I'm currently dealing with 5, so I do empathize. The stage you have them in now is perfect for their ages, the only other things I'd suggest as desirable are standing for the farrier (you say they do feet, but trimming etc) and loading. Personally, I don't find doing 'multiples' hard until they get to about 3 and you start thinking about lunging, backing etc, that's when you're in for an exhausting time!

As others have said...routine, Patience and little and often handling.

If possible try and turn them out with older horses as it's great to let them play together and be babies but older horses will help to teach them manners and respect as they will soon get told off if they over step the mark!!

Same if you lead them out, try and do it with calm, experienced horses.

Try and do things separately with them as well so they don't rely and depend on each other.

Good luck with them :)
