... I lost my beloved Nettie, my friend, soul mate, horse of a lifetime. I had him 2 weeks short of a year, but it was the most incredible time. I lost him to a tragic accident where he caught his leg in a five bar gate and snapped it clean in half. There was nothing that could be done. I still have him, in a wooden box on my bedside table, I cant bear to be far from him. I miss him terribly and still think about him every day, i'll never forget him.

When i went to view him (in p!ss poor condition)

So next time you see your horses, please give them a big hug and let them know just how much you appreciate them even if they are broken and you cant do anything with them. You just never know when they may not be there anymore.

OMG just realised its must be nearly 2yrs since I lost my boy. Again with a broken leg in the field - so I know how heartbroken you feel.

Beppe (the horse in my avatar) also had no forelock just like your horse.

Well done you though as you transformed him from a hatrack to a glossy healthy horse, so his last year must at least been a happy one.

Know just how you feel, lost my girl 4yrs ago in December from a broken leg in the field. We still dont know how it happened but was her hind leg and was from either a kick or a freak snap of the bone through playing. I do still miss her even though I have my new girl (not so new now actually had her 3 yrs) and she is so like Holly who I lost. I swear her ghost has given her a few tips on how to play the same tricks and be cheeky.
All credit to you, your horse looked so well in your later photos. You never forget them, I only owned Holly for 2 years, she taught me so much and was a fabulous mare. My only regret is that I didnt have enough photos of her but I have my special memories.

Thanks for the words guys, and yes I do believe he had a happy year, he was such a sweetheart. Never complained and despite all the problems we had I can honestly say I never had one bad day with him. Every single day we had together was a joy. I couldnt have wished for a more thoughful, caring, trusting horse. I know i'll never forget him and he'll never be replaced but I now have 3 wonderful boys that I love just as much in their own right (even if they test my patients every single day!)
