Hello,
I've recently been to look at a 2yo in the hope of breaking him in and selling him on as a 4/5yo, so he would be a long term project. He's got a nice calm outlook on life and is a well bred kwpn x tb and I know the lady who bred him/am buying him off. However, a recent growth spurt has lead him to become rather long through his back. Previous youngsters who I have dealt with didn't do the length growing until last so my concern is that he may stay in these sort of proportions. He is bum high though. He doesn't really look like either of his parents. Any other conformation pointers for kwpn x? Anything to look out for? I appreciate that all youngsters grow at different rates etc but if anyone has any pics of their 2yo kwpn types and maybe some when they were 4 that would be great!

I'm far more used to looking at young tbs or cruelty cases which have bad conformation :o

Many thanks in advance :)

(I would have attached a pic but don't know how to do that yet...going to look it up now!)

A very knowledgeable old man once told me "Don't look too closely at a youngster when there's a 2 in its age". He reckoned they all look ropy at 2 weeks, 2 months and 2 years...

If she bred him she will have foal photos, look at him at 3 months and see what he was like conformation wise then.

Thank you for your help, here is a photo. I have some of him as a foal but not at 3 months sadly...I will attach the foal pics too.

I wouldn't say he was particularly long through his back, he has a good bottom and shoulder but for me his hind legs let him down and he has a low set neck which may make him harder to ride 'uphill'.

Sorry if the pics aren't coming up - they're showing as being broken windows to me but I followed the H&H FAQ instructions! Bobbly do you think a little straight in the hocks perhaps? The photo doesn't really show how bottom high he is, he must be at least 3 inches taller at the back than the front and does have a well muscled neck for a 2 yo which doesn't help with the downhill appearance. Also his feet need trimming but not too worried about that!

Yep, can see them now. Thanks.

It's not the best photo really to be able to make an assessment of him. But most immediately I wouldn't say he's particularly long in the back.

No, wish I'd got one of him without the shadow across his back as think that splits him up a bit. Good to know you wouldn't be concerned about his back though, thank you for your opinion :)

I have one more pic which may be better...
