Hi the posts are around 6.6 feet tall, with the mesh (supreme tornado horse mesh) approx 4.5ft and then the electric wires at about 5.4 and 6ft 3 high. The electric is mains powered but can be battery powered instead. The gates are 6 feet tall. They have bolts with a swing cover so they cant be pulled back by naughty neds or doglets. I am not sure how far down the posts go but I suspect (the chap who did it is very thorough belt and braces type) that it would be at least half as much again - so probably the posts are at least 10 foot before they are driven in. As for the tree trunk gate strainers, wow! Glad he did it not me!
You'll laugh but it was put in mainly for our doberman who isnt good with livestock, as we were moving to a very farming location we did not want to take any risks and make ourselves unpopular, but I think OH went a little OTT with the spec, I didnt see it till it was in, we havent ever turned the electric on!! But it would be ideal for a stallion if we we had one. We use it for the horses (gelding and mare) as well as the sheep and dog exercise are as we have subdivided it.
But I think the locals thought we were going to keep emus at the very least! It even appears on the ordnance survey aeriel map like the Great Wall of China!
As you can see the ground isnt level and it was stony too, great granite boulders which doesnt help. Total cost for just under 4 acres including all the gates, fencing and mains electric kit and installation was just under £7k. A lot of money for an exercise area for a mangy rescue hound
)))
Heres the 17 hander next to it
