Daughter's Viz has come to stay again for a week. He's a nice dog but still quite puppyish in some ways and rather needy. Stan is just a bit stupid and over excited. With careful management we can keep them relatively calm in the house but we are struggling on walks. They want to be together but tbh George is just too big and very rough with Stan and Stan has a naughty habit of biting George's ears (already had an infection from last time they were together) Stan is fine with every other dog that I walk him with and daughter says George is too but together they are a bit of a nightmare. This morning we ended up having one on and one off the lead. We do walk them separately as George needs a lot more exercise than Stan but it would be lovely to be able to walk them off lead together. Will it get better? I suspect part of the problem is jealousy!

I’m having trouble with Dobby and Fizz being way too rough on walks at the moment but I’m finding a tennis ball each as a gob stopper for them is working at the moment but not sure it will help with George and Stan?

Wouldn't work with them I'm afraid, neither "carry things". George is more manageable if we continually throw a ball for him to fetch but that needs big open areas and most of our walks are not like that. I took G down to the playing fields this morning and just wanged a ball for him for nearly an hour, he'd have happily carried on for another hour but I need to ride before the snow arrives. OH has just taken Stan off for a walk on his own. It's the size difference and the speed that G goes at that worries me most, Stan being a terrier isn't at all intimidated so it all gets a bit nasty. They did settle down together eventually but we were all completely wrecked!

It must be exhausting. Our lot are good with the puppy most of the time but luckily being lab bitches they just get terrified and run away from her, then we can distract her with something to destroy. (egg boxes are popular!).
I remember last year hating walking Pen with the adults, once she got old enough, as she ruined their walks. It is difficult, but I am sure they will soon be older, calmer and potter together. (I am being an optimist, a Vizla and a terrier may never grow old and calm!).
