2008 foalie updates...........

Wow! What lovely foals you all have - they are truly fabulous! I'm longing to see how Opie's are coming along - they looked amazing in the baby-pics!

I don't have any foals of my own to add to this thread, but my boy Tobago had his first season at stud last year, so there are 18 Tobagolings out there....

Here is just a very small sample of his first foal crop:

Pure bred Arabs:

Poseidon, who was the British National Champion Foal at this year's national Arab show:

Tobago's Ambassador, bred by Fantasiaa Arabians in Belgium. Update: he has been bought by a lovely breeding/eventing family in the UK, and will be coming here when he's weaned. His dam is back in foal to Tobago:

Touch of Tobago - filly, also in Belgium. Update: being retained as a show horse and broodmare:

Lord Tobago, another Belgian Tobagoling. Update: growing very tall and strong, super movement. Probably will be for sale as stud is cutting down and has too many colts/stallions:

Jamaica - another show-filly - this one shows how much type and refinement Tobago adds. Update: Breeder wrote recently to say she is thrilled and Jamaica will be shown in the spring:

Oh - and movement!:

Bassino - colt. Latest update: this very small stud don't normally keep colts, but they are very tempted to keep him. Dam is back in foal to Tobago:

And finally Saria - another show-filly. Latest update: looking lovely and will be shown next spring:

savfilly2.jpg

Part breds:

Emae - filly bred by Zoe King (zoeshiloh on here) out of her super TB x ID mare. Latest update: She's been winning Sport Horse and Hunter foal titles at county shows - I think her next outing is the national foal of the year show...

emaecanterwow.jpg

emaetrotarchwow.jpg

Most recent photo of Emae - sorry one can't see that much of her!:

Emaerearing.jpg

Dainty (stable name - can't remember her show name), filly out of PBA mare.

daintygallop-1.jpg

And finally Onyx, out of Mother_Hen's Highland Pony mare Spitchwick Sea Emerald. Latest news - he's gone a funny apricot colour!:

Sorry - for a 'small sample' that's an awful lot of photos - I got a bit carried away! Please tell me if it's too many and I'll delete!

Was only on loan to the Shropshire stud for one year thank goodness! It taught us never to put a horse of ours out on loan again.

Just in after a very busy day as it was the SSH gradings today, well what can I say, all five foals received first premiums, a first premium for our yearling filly, two ster mares with excellent scores for jumping and conformation, one by Scandic and the other by Umenno and a first premium mare, one of which was Ashley's Teenie Weenie, the pony mare by Umenno, she was awarded the scores for ster but has incomplete pedigree information and scored exceptionally well in jumping and equally as well in movement and conformation. I do have pics to share of her, will do once the weekends Gradings are over. Highest scoring foal so far is our Quaterback filly, Dwenqua she sure strutted her stuff..... I will do my best to get pics next week weather permitting as its my last chance before they all leave to their new homes on Friday. Planning a trip South in the very near future with my camera

so will get some pics of your lovely Athens

Riva, yes I know Uphill, saw him at his stallion Grading, and liked him tremendously and have seen a number of his stock in Holland and liked them a great deal, just wasn't sure if it was the foal named uphill or the sire

Lovely breeding lovely colt

very blood in type

They are all simply stunning Htobago, I have been singing his praises today, and mentioned him to the NRPS graders, they would be very interested in hearing from you, so will PM contact details, the NRPS use a lot of Arab blood in their sports horse/pony breeding program one of the most notable is the pure bred arab Khrim (sp) a fabulous jumper and sire of jumpers and eventers competing at International level. I think Tobago would be a lovely match for Teenie as could do with refining.......... might be in a few years though as after her first foal she needs to go out under saddle.

Here are our 2 weaned Arabian fillies. They have been away from their mums for about 2 weeks. Both are very well behaved, they are not as pretty as the Tobago's, but the are both performance bred!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their mothers were both top international endurance horses, who competed in World and European Championships.

The grey fillies mum is a 16hh Shagya Arab who was bred in Germany. As you can see the stockiness of her mum has come through, she is going to be a little power house.

The chestnut fillies mother is by Drug, who is the only arabian horse in history to have won in the same year both the European Senior Show Champion Stallion and European Race Horse of the year (a title he claimed 2 years in a row). He was also National Champion of Holland and Russian Derby Winner. Drug is now chief sire at the Royal Stables of Abu Dhabi in the U.A.E.

Here is Dad, SM Matra, he is a top international endurance horse, I actually had the pleasure of riding him in an 80km endurance ride. I have never sat on a horse with such smooth paces. He was like riding an arm chair, a true gentleman. Bred in Argentina, he had a successful showing career and sired many show and performance horses. One of his sons is Champion of Argentina.

We have high hopes for these 2 little ladies, as they are destined for a career in top international endurance.

Thank you! That is so kind of you! I'd be happy to talk to them. Do they do gradings? If so, maybe we should do theirs as well as the Trak grading? I do realise that the boy has to prove himself under saddle too - that is our top priority now!

Wow - Teenie! - Really?! Tobago would be very very honoured! She sounds seriously fabulous - could you post a photo of her? Oh golly I can't believe Tobago maybe might have an Opie mare!! *does little skippy dance*

Bassino definatly needs to come to me in 4 years time to show under saddle. I do love him!

[/ QUOTE ]

That would be fantastic! His owners tell me he is getting more and more beautiful as he matures - and his movement gets bigger and flashier every day! He has presence to burn and is a natural-born show-off, like his Daddy. He would be a super ridden show horse - and you could do dressage with him as well.

They've put his dam back in foal to Tobago - almost certainly for her last foal, as she is 21 - hoping for a filly next year...

I'll tell them to hang on to 'Baz' for you!

Lovely to see how all these babies are coming on.

HTobago, as ever, I am in love with your boys babies, and I am especially looking forwards to seeing more of little Onyx.

Cruiseline, Drug was racing when I was on that scene and I always loved him.

This is my June 2008 Quarab filly. I really like this little horse. Now sold, but I have her until the New Year. Her owner has asked for first refusal on her 2009 full sibling he likes her so much. She is dual registered as a Quarab and a PBA, and destined to be a general western riding horse, which is EXACTLY what I had in mind when I bred this combination rather than pure arab or pure QH. Her 2007 half sister (different sire) is the palomino in my signature.

I will be weaning as early as I can as the mare does her rather well, but looks like a bag of bones herself, and I really NEED to get some flesh on her before winter sets in. Fuzzy coat is just starting, but it isn't that cold here at nights yet and days are still in the 20's.

Wow cruiseline - I love your Arab fillies! The chestnut especially is very pretty, as well as very athletic-looking. Drug is one of my all-time favourite stallions, and SM Matra looks super as well. What fantastic bloodlines! Your girls are sure to be superstar endurance horses. What height are they expected to make?

My boy has nothing like the endurance credentials of Matra, or indeed any performance credentials at all yet, so I'm a bit surprised that people are so keen to breed top endurance mares to him: he had one Advanced endurance mare last year (a TBx), 2 this year (including an international mare) and 2 more already booked for next year, including an international champion, GB team member. etc. I'm longing to see how these foals turn out - hey, maybe they will be competing with your fab fillies in a few years' time - got a feeling yours will win, though!!

Wow there are some stunng foals from this year, and so many with bits of arab in them! Well in true style, my chap has a little bit too from his Dad - Mill Law

So here is Dillon at just over 4 months old, he spent nearly 6 weeks of that inside sorting out his ballerina syndrome, which i am pleased to say after a lot of hard work with the farrier and the vet seems to have come right!

Thanks Htobago, Claire has just picked them up from the stud, they need a bit of beefing up before the winter, but we are really pleased with them both.

The grey filly's mum is 16hh and SM Matra is 15.2hh so we are hoping for somewhere around the 15.2hh, as it is her first foal.

The chestnut filly's mum is about 15.1, she is also by SM Matra, so we are hoping for over 15hh as it is also her first foal.

The 2 mares are in foal to an appaloosa stallion for next year, I might just come knocking on your door after they have foaled next season, as you know I am a fan of Tobago, he will definitely make their babies cat walk models!!!!

Hi Cruiseline,

Spotty arabs?
smile.gif
That would be fun.

This cross is Arabian dam (LOTS of Bask in there) A small 14h, been a broody most of her life apart from a short ridden (western) career. Not the prettiest, or typiest of mares, but a grand old lady and she's with me for good. I rescued her from a feedlot with about 20 QH's, in foal and in a mess. Poor old girl would not have made it through to Spring, she is not an easy keeper!Sire is my 15h, 4 year old QH, not much of him in the bay filly apart from his fabulously laid back nature and maybe a bit of a QH bum.
DSCF7235-1.jpg
DSCF0022.jpg

From the Quarabs I have seen, it seems to be that the Arab dam/QH sire cross produces slightly finer boned horses than the QH/Arab combination. I know someone who has one of these and she is a mini QH through and through, her owner is still looking for the arab in her!
smile.gif

Incidentally, the chestnut (trotting) in my signature is 15.2, solid muscle and also a QH/Arab cross. You would never know she had any arab in her apart from her tail carriage.

Unfortunately, both of the mares are grey, so we might get spotties that grey out!!!!

The arab mare / QH stallion type is exactly what we are looking for, lighter bone than a QH, but with more power than an arab, so fingers crossed.

This is the stallion I have used.

What GORGEOUS foals of so many different shapes, sizes and colours! Just shows that we DO breed some fantastic horses here in the UK. You must all be so proud

We start weaning our eldest babies this week as they're 6 months old now, and their mum's are well and truly at that "seriously, bog off and leave me alone" stage!

Here's Elvis who won Best colt foal and Best Overall foal at the KNN GRading last week (He's by the Knabstrupper stallion Hamlet Frydenlund out of a Fleetwater Olympus Trakehner mare)

And one of Dylan - by Treliver Decanter who is quite frankly enormous!

So yes they are definitely all getting their winter woolies ready for the cold weather!

Right I finally have a few quick snaps of the babies

Firstly Tia, as pretty as ever

Vivaldi, looking rather tubby!

Then Jack, still trying to look like a girl, he is too pretty isn't he.

and Jack again, showing how wooly he is getting

and finally Oriana, who will probably be weaned in a few weeks, and then off to her new home in Gloucestershire.

Spookynight, I just love all the spots on your girl, what is her breeding.

[/ QUOTE ]

Her spots are delightful aren't they! She's by the same sire as Bananaman's Spider. So her breeding is Goshka Ringo x Sportsnight x Atlantus. I know Ringo also has spots, but so does her dam - albeit only in her hind socks LOL, as she herself is bay!

P.S. You do know I am _SN_ don't you? I just changed my name for Halloween

I will post some pics of Weasel in a day or so, but just weighed her and she is 238kg and 13hh at 19 weeks. Weaning is looming, but I am still undecided how to do it. Was going to do gradual weaning but may just take mare to alternative grazing if I can arrange it and do a clean cut off. May change my mind yet.......oh dear!
