Here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersp...ntensifies.html and i hear World Heritage is having something to say about it as i believe i have suggested in the past. I shall post a link to NOGOE' s latest report as well as soon as i find it. it makes most interesting reading.

Interesting article, but I still can't see why exsisting facillities, Windsor, Hickstead etc can't be used.
Surely an "out of town" venue would be better for competitors and spectators alike??
 
particularly if you google the gentlemen who signed the letter to the princess royal. sounds like they should know a thing or two.
 
Recently NOGOE requested a special meeting with the Greenwich Society, the motion read:

'This Society will oppose the construction or use of a course in Greenwich Park for the purposes of the cross country event to be held as part of the 2012 London Olympic Games'.

The Executive Committee Counter-Resolution that: ‘The Society believes that
constructive dialogue with LOCOG and the other Olympic organisations is in the best interests of the Society’ was carried by unanimous consent.

So NOGOE is not actually supported by local residents. Furthermore, Westcombe Society Chairman Gordon Baker said: “I am also struck by the way that many of the assertions made in the dramatic NOGOE leaflet about the cross-country, which has been widely circulated in Westcombe Park, are at variance with information and assurances we have been given by the Olympic authorities. I have no grounds for believing that information and those assurances are false.”
 
Pootler, read the report in the link. I am actually astonished that you gve any credibility to LOGOE, who couldnt even get their plans draw to scale, ommited a main road and led the IOC to believe the park is twice the size it is.
if NOGOE have requested a meeting and certain factions of the residency wish to ignore facts until it is too late so be it, but there are a great many residents who are not members of the Westcombe society who do oppose the scheme as well as a great many who are.
Anyway this is all a moot point. as i pointed out months ago and is now also in the report above, their are legal reasons why using the park is going to be an expensive battle. I believe only an act of parliament could resolve those which you dont arrange in five minutes and in fact could itself legally be challenged. Further as i have also pointed out, the park is a world heritage site. LOGOE etc made their plan without consulting UNESCO, which could mean another legal minefield.
Read the report and then, as NOGOE have done, reference your facts so we can all see the reason why you dispute it.
 
Hmm I feel that they now want it in Greenwich purely to show the opposers that it can be done. Not a good idea IMO.
The thing where Athens cost loads and then was never used is kinda off point as how many horse comps are in Greece anyway? And a lot of their budget was getting the ground to spec, which shouldn't be such a problem in the UK. The 2012 is cheaper but then it want be a lasting monument.
I'd absolutely love to be able to say I've ridden round where the olympic track was held. To go through the same water, gallop along the same bit would be amazing for many many people. And if it was near to London and they got the public transport sorted, whos to say that the "underprivalged" couldn't visit the equestrian sites during and then again after the Olympics when new events are held around the course?
 
Lucretia I haven't said anything one way or the other in this post - it is purely factual. I have posted the views verbatim of local residents. I am astonished that you never read posts correctly that oppose your views! You just harangue the posters for differing with you!!!!
 
You have posted the views of a PROPORTION of local resisdents as i mention above. Perhaps you didnt realise your post also makes comment on the credibility of NOGOE then, Pootler. I read it perfectly well and if you did not wish to taken as in agreement with the whole of the statements in your post, you should say so.
As for haranging, my position on this issue is under no doubt what so ever and while i firmly believe any body is enttiled to an opinion and to voice that opinion, the purpose of a form is for debate about those statements is it not? It seems that NOGOE have backed up their position rather well, i am waiting for a good counter and Gordon Bakers comment, once you read the document in the link does not appear to be one.
 
I have a really bad feeling that there will be a lot of egg on someones face at the end of this whole debacle. I thought it was too late to change anything now??

well, as NOGOE mention the mountain biking has just been relocated (not sure to where) so venues ARE being changed, I think there is alot of smokescreen and whitewashing myself about certain statements portrayed as facts.
 
I think those people who live outside Greenwich (ie the majority I should imagine of people posting on this forum) should confine themselves to comments about Greenwich as suitable venue from an equestrian perspective.
I live in Greenwich, and while I would not dream of saying I represented the views of all my neighbours, I am very excited about the idea of holding the Games in the park.
Hosting the Olympics in London is of course going to cause some disruption for locals. But I believe LOCOG when they say the park is an entirely suitable location and they will not cause damage to it.
NOGOE are, in my opinion, a group of people who have found new meaning to their lives in retirement and are loving having something to get excited about.

perhaps you, your supporters, and the rest of you in your ivory towers (as opposed to the council ones in Blackheath) could climb down a moment and provide some actual facts to disprove NOGOE's excellent and well reasoned document.
The last time i looked there were several thousand signatures on the petition supporting the relocation of the cros country course, which if you were the least informed you would realise if the only part of the plan that even NOGOE really object to. I would think that one or two of them live in the area as do more people than you might imagine on this forum.

pootler you really cant read can you? Note the comment above is directed at Shoeey quite clearly. Further more, i do know where you live as you have said so in this thread which is more than you know about me and mine and which apparently is all that is required for you and your think is required to back up your arguments (along with a few snide digs) because you still havent presented ONE fact to discredit the NOGOE report. If that isnt displaying ignorance i dont know what is.

You had a council house? Eee, eck, you didn't know you were born, I were a sewer rat in Deptford for twenty years before I even set foot in Blackheath .... lived in a paper bag in a urine soaked crevice of a broken pipe ...
