2012 the latest.

If the going's wet which hey it is England it will be - the entry to the dressage arena is going to get churned up aka part of the xc course will also then have dodgy going.

Sounds of the trains when you're doing dressage could be entertaining too. The logistics of having horse ambulances on course and working out the best distances between them and the stabling/nearest vets etc.

If a horse gets onto the road, they'll be no stopping it!

I might toddle to Greenwich in the next couple of weeks to get an idea of the place. I could take photos

good idea and if yu do be sure to notice the formal gardens soon to be flattened, the chestnut trees, oldest living things in london soon to be 'pruned. if not cut down and the fact that where most of the course runs ther will be no iconic backdrop just the tower blocks from deptford high street. i could meet you up there if you like becuase to be fair i have been round the park and the area alot since the plan was annouced but not actually in it. maybe i have remembered it all wrong......

All I noticed was the start and finish are nowhere hear each other and the finish seems to be a heck of a long way from the stables etc ...

Why can't they have the equestrian events outside of London? Look at Bejing, the horses were "thousands of miles" away from the Games ...

they reckon thats te whole point but no one is objecting to the dressage and showjumping its just the eventing which seems to be very silly.

I just think it's bloody stupid to have it there.
I'd go so far as to say I'm embarrassed by the, IMO, clutching at straws going on to try and build the Equestrain stuff in such a small vacinity. :s:

Sorry to harp on about the same thing but why doesn't the showjumping, dressage and even stabling stay at Greenwich? Eventing stage can be held elsewhere like in Hong Kong. Riders won't miss out of the 'Olympic experience' and an existing course which can hold bigger crowds can be modified (adding to legacy) and more people will be happier. Which riders are being consulted for their views on developments?

as has been said elsewhere, no body including the residents is objecting to dressage and showjumping being there. it is the three day event that will tear up the park beyond repair as well as all the flaws in the plan as above. In fact the showjumping and dressage disciplines cannot be rehomed at windsor for example as it is host the european championships which of course would give those nations entitled to compete in that competition. however that does not apply to eventing does it.

leave the rest in Greenwich park and just run the xc in Windsor park then, it's close enough, an amazing backdrop, and there's enough time to sort the ground out if they start now, plus we'd end up with a fantastic facility to use in the future.

Just re-read my post and realise it doesn't read well. Whilst I do think Greenwich should remain as base for dressage and jumping I have never understood using it for cross country.
It looks more and more like it was a decision to attract the initial bid (nice picture of horse cantering with Greenwich in the background if I remember correctly) rather than being a thought out idea which looked at the bigger picture.

exactly. and have i mentioned there is a lack of money to redo the old naval college building into grooms quarters as per London area TV report earlier this week? if thats the case it will no good parking the lorries on blackheath, the grooms will be living in them and will either need them substantially closer or shuttles running pretty much for 18 hours a day.

I find it strange that riders/grooms will need their lorries to live in. Surely accommodation will be provided at the Olympic village? I don't think they will have had their lorries in HK!

No the plan was that the riders would be able to be in the village (unlike hong kong but as per other games) and the grooms and support staff were going to be 'almost on site' in their separate accomdations at the refurbished college.
Obviously there were no lorries in Hong Kong (and arent usually at most games as the horses fly in e.g sydney, atlanta, but if they are going to have to go somewhere arent they?

Good old south london press (where this reporter comes from) and i agree it is better to have a statement from tim hadaway but neverthe less the it does not address any of the isues in the site plan as above in this thread. I suspect because there was no-one at the meeting to ask the right questions. for example from this article i got the timplication that the residents thought the trees would only have to be pruned to make way for jumps and their exact siting hadnt been decided but as i understand it they will have to be heavily pruned so the tv cameras can folow the action.
anyway jealthy debate is good.

In Athens all of the grooms etc were on the equestrian site. Rooms werent particually nice but they were clean and new. The riders were in the Village, and shuttle busses ran all day from the village to the equestrian!
It was great, when the riders went away, we were allowed to just get on with it!
