2012 WBFSH General Assembly in Newmarket

Actually I was there covering it for The British Breeder (Cat Wood was ill) as well as for Breeding News for Sports Horses (and WBSUK of course) and Carole Mortimer was there covering it for Horse International (and hopefully H&H if they give her some space in a future Sportshorse column).

Board members are elected by members votes (which are decided by the number of foals registered each year) so it tends to be that the big German, Dutch and French stud books vote each other in. John Shenfield (of BHHS) is on the Audit Committee which checks the accounts for the Finance Dept before the GA approves them and I am Secretary to the Board of the IYB (which does not have represntation on the WBFSH Board itself although it organises one of the main events) and that is about as close to power as they allow any non-mainland Europeans to get to any real power :-), apart from the Iirsh representative who is responsible for the section that approves new members.

HTH explains things a bit.

Ciss, do you know why no British equestrian press was there?
And also why there is no British representation at the Sunday Board meeting.

Looked like some interesting presentations

I invited the BEF to participate some months before the event but did not receive a reply.
H & H were going to come but I think they left it to Carol Mortimer after i asked them to pay for their lunch. The AES did not attend and Vincent Jones came on the Monday on behalf of SHGB. Susan Attew represented the Trakehners. There was hardly any representation from British studbooks to the WHIRDEC meeting on the Sunday where they could have learnt about the hub that can link them to other databases. I hope you look at the photos on the WBFSH website and the presentations by the guest speakers which were fantastic.

Just to clarify I was at the WHIRDEC meeting on the Sunday representing the WBSUK and John was there representing BHHS. Jan was there representing the BEF (who are entitled to attend as a national federation (FN)) and Susan Attew was there representing both the Trakehner Verband and Trakehners UK. Carole Mortimer was also there covering it for Horse International but not H&H and I was doubling up as correspondent for BNSH as well.

So bascially it was SHBGB, AES and SSH (all Uk-based WBFSH members entitled to attend) that did not bother to send reps to the vital meeting on the Hub on the Sunday, which I agree is a pretty poor show :-(.
