2025 foals

Oh wow that is a fast drop, I'll keep that in mind! Did she show any other signs being a maiden too that she was going to go that evening or did they come on suddenly?

She was just a fraction unsettled at dusk so I decided to stay over (had a camera on her, live 5mins away). 3am she was down pushing having been fairly quiet through the first part of the night

Still waiting on my mare, 332+ days today. Been bagging up for 7 weeks now, but definitely some progress in the udder department over the last week or so.

With her being a maiden I'm not sure how much notice I'm going to get from her.. but I feel like the teats are starting to point more outwards, and today she had the teeniest (literally just a smidge) amount of yellow/orange crust on one of her udders? Not sure if I'm kidding myself into seeing signs that aren't there though, this is my first foal so the anticipation might be making me crazy 😅

You have my sympathies. The wait is sooo long. My maiden mare didn't give any notice and barely gave me time to get home from work to catch the end of the foaling. She was at 339 days.

Well this makes my nervousness jump from 100% to 110%, praying big gal will make it a bit more obvious than this so I'll know when I need to stay overnight 😅

On the bright side, Pippin was out just after 9pm and I didn't spend several sleepless nights while pacing around watching the camera for imminent birth...

Well if you insist... Here's more Pippin:

He's already grown quite a bit in two weeks. His headcollar now almost fits him and he's had it on a few minutes in the stable. More practice on that coming up. He loves a good scratch and I can scratch him all over, though often with one hand on his cheek as he wants to groom me back and he needs to work out that it isn't ok on humans. I've picked up all four feet, one hand to pick up the foot, the other to give scratches, and managed to remove a tick he picked up under his jaw.

I've had to shout a firm "No!" at him for trying to climb on me like he does with his mum. Since then, an "Ah, ah!" has been enough for him to rethink the wisdom of trying to play with me.

He's meeting a fair few people who've come to see him and talk to him but has only really interacted with me so far, so will need to find some appropriate humans sometime for some more scratches over the gate.

He is full of beans and it's amazing to watch him gallop around the paddock and put in some leaps, bounces and bucks that look a lot like his mum's! The paddock he's using is currently my orchard with an open but separate mud control mat zone, and part of my neighbours' to either side gardens, so there are four sections in total, joined by gateways and I'm impressed by his developing spacial awareness skills. I think he has only been separated from his mum twice by missing the gateway and they have since managed to get back to each other without help.

Little Madam is also a lot more relaxed about her foal now and lets him get further away from her now. A couple of times he was even closer (but still a few meters away) to the Old Lady than to Little Madam.

I can add to the pics! Colt foal born this morning. Mum TB. Dad Ustinov Van Elsenham. Chuffed to bits with them. He has identical face markings to her. Mare is a maiden and taken the birth in her stride. 2 days over her due date. 😍😍

All these foal pics are getting me excited! Congratulations everyone!

Hoping I'll have some to share over the next couple of weeks. Maiden mare, and given bad luck I had losing a mare I just got in foal last year I've got everything crossed it all goes well as this will be my first foal.

Keep the foal photos coming!

Best of luck to you, looking forward to seeing the lil one 🙏

Ah, the head pics I thought maybe grey 😅
I actually thought he was black when he first came out because he was super dark but got so thrown off when he dried that light 😂 forgive me if I'm wrong here or if there are exceptions but what's confusing me about him being grey is don't they start as their base colour (I'm guessing he'd be bay given his parents?) and then slowly change colour? I know when his dad was born he was proper bright bay.
