2025 foals

What a handsome wee guy! Love his marking!
Can you tell us a bit more about him?

How is your wee guy doing @Titchy Pony ?
My little guy is doing great. Thanks for asking. I've made him his own thread over in the tack room: Pippin the pony. That way, I can spam to my heart's content.

My little dude is 3 months old now and is a super bold chap. He is in a herd of 6 of all ages now and holding his own with no problem. He is playing with the 4 year old Connie gelding for entertainment and has his mum and an 18 year old mare as his bodyguards to keep him in line. Xx

Romeo growing up fast. Amber is so patient with him. He pesters her endlessly to play with him! She’s staying empty this year then going back in foal next year. She makes very nice babies! (Ok I’m biased!)

OK, it's a steep learning curve. She's 4 weeks old now. I bought a book  but so far she's not behaving like the foal in the book !

I have three horses. Three home breds. All three are very different and have all been very different since the day they were born.

Do you know anyone who has had a few foals that might be able to guide you, or just make the rough days feel less rough!?

Mine is exceptionally good, leads beautifully. Still got loose last week having a moment!

Now Smurf! When did horses start behaving like the horses in books?!! 😂

Have you given her a name? I know this was a shock for you so you may not want to.

Well my mare is called 'Goose' so the foal had to be 'Gosling'. And given she was smuggled into my life inside a horse  we have gone for 'Trojan Gosling'. We had to settle on a name and passport & microchip to get the DNA test done to prove her parentage. Nervously waiting on the results

That's the thing about her not following the book. There have been no rough days.
She foaled at a very respectable 6pm, it all happened in 15 mins and was pretty much text book. Stood after 15 mins, suckled after 30 mins, IgG level was 12.
Day one she stayed in. Day two she had to wear a foal slip and be lead by it as we have a pond in the centre of our courtyard so following mum was not an option. (doing backstroke with the water lilies and carp would not be good!)
The book says she'd only want milk for the first 8 weeks. But she ate grass in week 2, week three she was eating grass, hay and fighting mum for her feed. And she's definitely eating it as doing proper mini horse poos.
She's 4 weeks and leads like a dream, picks up all her feet, comes when called, she's really friendly and polite etc
I am just waiting on her turning into a monster.
I never wanted a foal, and I don't have children so the thought of keeping a small thing alive terrifies me. But so far she's an angel.
