I had one a few years ago - lovely car, no reliability issues at all, but mine was brand new.
It wasn't the most economic car when it came to fuel consumption but at the time I was driving to and from London nearly every weekend
don't know if this is much help - the only other thing I found was the class of insurance is quite high.
Nice little fun car to look at but rubbish to drive, hard, ricketty ride and the gear box is rubbish too. I had the 2l one and I don't remember it being particuarly thirsty, but then I guess that's only in comparison to the cars I've had since.
They aren't cheap to insure if you are a newish driver.
I got a brand new one when they came out - was crap!
The brakes squealed a lot, and I had 5 set of brake pads to try and fix this (Peugot wouldn't recognise as a fault).
The ride is hard and bumper, the roof mechanism isn't that stable and I certainly wouldn't want to have an old one as could go wrong very easily. Ride was hard due to suspension, I had 1.6l with air con and MPG were crap - 30's ish
I then got a tigra which was much better built than the 206cc.
Having had 8 cars since passing my test 5 years ago (hehe I get bored) and my Dad having a garage (yes I'm a car freak) the best first cars for reliability and performance that I have driven are the VW Polo, Toyota Yaris (esp t-sport) and oddly enough I borrowed a Fiat Punto for a couple of months and really liked it (plus it was cheap).
um i drive a megane convertible much nicer than the 206..
I wrote off my 1st car within 6 months of taking my test i wouldnt recommend a great car for your first one as you will have a few prangs!
I had one, sold it to my sister. I had no probs with it to be honest although she's since had it and been crashed into twice! oops! It's still going strong though as far as i am, aware. Was the 1.6 allure. Great fun in my mind although actually compared to me (new model) vitara SWB 4x4 feels heavier to drive.
Only downside is in this country you don't get much chance to have the roof down!
I have a 206 Sport, 05 plate and I HATE it!! The gearbox is terrible - very clunky, the passenger side electric window is on its way out and its got very poor build quality, the passenger seat is impossible to put forward so people can get in the back. Having said all that it doesn't seem to be too bad on fuel - its a 1.4 petrol. I'm currently looking to get rid!!!
My sister got a brand new one in 06 and it was RUBBISH. It was in and out of the garage 6 times in the first year. Gear box was awful and build quality was awful. It kept making clanky noises, then the seat broke, then there were problems with the gearbox.
It was not good im afraid and it drove her so crazy she ended up selling it back to the garage she brought it from less than a yr later.
Go for a VW Polo. I had one and they are lovely, sturdy little cars, I had a diesel and it was pokey but really economical. They hold their value well and after 18 months I sold it for a really good price.
Either that or I would go for 2nd hand BMW mini, you could get a really nice one for the cost of a new 206, although they are quite hard to sell on as there are a lot around (makes them easy to buy tho!!)
