Just browsing ads, and came across this. What do you think?

Genuinely just looking for more experienced eyes to cast over this ad and tell me what you think - hmm. x

It definitely has the scope... However, either the jockey leaves a lot to be desired or the horse is not very well produced. In the photo on the flat it is overbent and bracing itself, the jumps seem erratic and the jockey is left waay behind hanging on to the mouth. I suppose go and see it, ride it and then make up your mind.
 
Hmm. I was just browsing ads, seeing what the market is doing at the mo. When I saw this for 20K I have to say I thought I was missing something, hence the post. Lordy.
 
She only has the 'potential' and this is the view of her owner who sounds like she could sell snow to the eskimos. She may have BSJA winnings but if they are that substantial why not declare how much she has won? The photo of her being schooled on the flat shows a horse overbent and behind the bit. Her jumping technique leaves a lot to be desired she shows no natural bascule. She is heavily sweating in the main photo. Who knows how many attempts she had to clear the fence and most of us could surmise that she would be bound to jump it clear once if tried ten times! How I wish i could have a pound for everytime I have heard people say 'my horse can jump 5ft'. Wow wee! Practically any horse can jump five foot, some of the better ones 6ft and better ones still 7ft. But when all said and done there's miles of difference between jumping a large fence made up of poles and jumping a large fenced track with fillers, related distances, corners and turns.
 
Overpriced and doesn't look to be making a very nice shape on the flat or over a jump, looks uncomfortable and not basculing. However this is coming from a purely novice point of view!
 
Can I ask what I think is probably a very stupid and naive question...

Does it matter that it's front legs aren't even going over the jump?

I hope you know what I mean and I hope this doesn't make me sound completly stupid... *hides in the corner*

No question is ever a stupid question. The horse looks as you described because it is not basculing correctly, that it it should (ideally) make a perfect arc over the fence. It should stretch its neck right out and in order to do that the rider must have a secure position and give with their hands. The horse should take off from the same distance away from the fence as the height, ie. if the fence is 3ft they should take off 3 ft away (as a rule), the back feet should be taking off together at the same time and the front feet neatly tucked up. The back should be free to round without impingement i.e a rider hampering the horse. I don't think its particularly fair to criticise the rider, to be honest she doesn't look like she is doing a too bad job (at the risk of being shot down in flames) but it is sad that someone is trying to oversell a horse by making it jump big and therefore look impressive. As i said in my previous post anyone can jump big, but I would rather buy a horse that jumps nicely over a 3ft course and can't jump 6ft than a horse that can jump 6ft but can't jump a 3ft showjumping track. What is the point of being able to jump that big I ask you??? How many people jump Puissance classes anyway? As many as people as you have ever seen this kind of class at a riding club for instance? I.e NONE!

Incidentally - Kat-Bath for an example of a horse jumping a big track look at Rose XX's photo of her and her lovely horse to the left of her reply. I'd bet any money she doesn't go around saying 'my horse can jump 6ft' !! And by way of another example of a horse jumping nicely have a look at the photo of the horse basculing over the fence to the left of Sophie1177's reply. That is really stretching its neck over the fence in the correct manner, something the FOR SALE horse is just not doing. Now tell me have you come out of the corner where you are hiding????
 
You little ***!!!!! He, he. No you are quite right, with horses there is always something to learn, some book to read, some stone unturned, some new avenue to explore ..... etc, etc. For some people though unfortunatley they think they know it all and won't listen to everyone else. I guess we learn from experience. Guess you weren't hiding after all!!!

Look at the 2nd photo of the horse ad. Did it knock down that 2ft fence in the background!!!

My pony can jump 5ft..... she's jumped out of her field several times - but she couldn't jump a 5ft course, nor a 4ft one!

And my other gripe is, if you're putting up an oxer like they have in this pic, at least put it at the proper width. 5ft should do it, not 2ft! No wonder it's going straight up in the air!
 
Jesus, why on earth use the first pic - looks like it messed up and cat leaped it. The flatwork pic is terrible too, horribly overbent. Looks like it has scope, but 4* eventing I think not. £20,000? - £2000 is more like it!

You never know, some poor mug will come along and pay that!

) looks like the only reason they've put the jumping ones up is to show how 'high' can jump, regardless of the horse's style, athleticism (sp?) and comfort etc. I dont know about all of you professionals

but echoing above replies, i'd rather see it jump a course 2 feet smaller without looking like it's about to fall on the jump (first pic)

Sure the horse may laugh at fences at "impressive" heights. However as others have pointed out where is the record?? A single fence is somewhat different to a course!! Remembering the horse is 9yrs old I would be somewhat dubious. Does it by any chance start jacking when you take it to a show hence no winnings?? in which case good luck getting it round even unaffiliated without breaking your neck...

I do not like the fence itself, or the horse's jumping style. The horse I am currently loaning could easily jump an individual fence of this size, and make it look better, yet as far as a course goes 1.30 is really his limit. He is of a similar age, and has an impressive history (including dressage), as a comparison he was bought for under 10K...As others have said 20K??? I'll eat my riding hat!!
 
Am I the only one who looked at the first picture and imagined the horse crashing down slap bang in the middle of the jump, hind legs first, a split second after the pic was taken?

I don't know that much about jumping but to me it just looks utterly, utterly wrong. If I had a pic of my mare like that I'd bin it, not use it on a for sale ad!!
 
If your're trying to sell a horse, why would you put that first picture in? I don't get it.

Obviously got in too deep to the fence. And she looks really stiff and tense in the flatwork picture. For a nine year old I'd be expecting a bit more. Would be very surprised if they got got £20,000 in this market! Maybe from an American or Arab?

I wouldn't touch him for 2k after having that muppet jumping him.
If they are happy to post that piccy on the advert god knows how the poor creature is ridden normally !!
 
No way is that fence 1.65m. In old language I would say it is around 4'6". The horse does seem careful as it has obviously got hopelessly close in in the first photo and is doing its best to clear it. The rear end is very tight in the flatwork photo, and look at the resistance in the neck and tail. £20K? In her dreams I'm afraid.
