Hi everyone,

I'm starting to panic about my precious colt who I bread just under two years ago. I really splashed out for the first time ever on a well-known stallion and I had hoped to breed from my boy in the future (Even bought moved house to buy my own land to keep him entire!), however we recently realised that we had a problem, missing testicle/s!

Last summer it appeared he had certainly one, (some thought two), but now there is definitely only one and even that is held very high and doesn’t seem normal. I'm finding lots of scary things on the internet but some people saying not to panic too soon... any advice?

:(

Have you discussed this situation with your vet? It could be quite normal for his age. Your vet is the best person to advise.

I had to delay gelding one of mine until recently as he only had one testicle descended.
Some do take a while to drop, so I wouldn't be panicing just yet!

Have a word with your vet, sometimes if they go to castrate them the missing testicle can be within reach, and can continue to geld, if not then you will be looking at criptorchid surgery, which is very costly I am afraid.

I think you are unlikely to have the other one drop now, our vet has referred ours at 13 mths as hes becoming a bit of a handful.

Thanks folkes, (had lost this thread!)

Am getting the vet this week so fingers crossed. Poor guy is so perfect, will be beyond gutted if he's going to have health issues because of all this; sad enough if he can't breed : (

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for all your messages (restores my faith in people!)

I'm going to sound totally incompitent now but well done to those of you that told me to get the vet :D. Vet came today, both testicles are there! He must have been sucking them up slightly, and one is carried a little high and is slightly small, but they're both there! The vet advised that sometimes if one is held high for longer than normal it longer to grow but there's no reason they shouldn't end up perfectly normal! (that may not be the best explination of what she said but that was roughly it!)

Yey!!:D:D

He's such a nice boy so I'm thrilled that he may go on to breed, who knows, fingers crossed! Thanks again for all your advice.
