24/7 + feed + haylage

Id the haylage necessary? grazing not too bad coming out of winter atm, horse is in regular work, pretty fit, cobby type but doesn't put on weight as easily as you'd expect.

Was just thinking a slice of haylage plonked with her feed in the field in the evening....or, do you think just feed (nuts, bit of chaff, and small amount of baileys outshine) and 24/7 turnout is enough?

well, see if she eats the slice you put out for her, our grass is on its way pretty quickly at the moment but really depends on how much you have for her. If she leaves it then don;t bother, if she eats it then shes prob hungrey, or greedy:) you'll know if she is!
 
Yeah, if she doesnt actually need the feed then Id also just stick with the 24/7 turnout and haylage. Haylage is more beneficial than the feed. Othewise, Id just put it out and see if he eats it.

Mine are out 24/7, they get hay out for them twice a day up until they start leaving it when the grass starts coming through.
 
I would always put hay out for a horse out 24/7 this time of year - unless of course they have just moved to fresh and plentiful grazing.

I would also like to see some left in the morning.....

Of course, you have to take into consideration the needs of the other horses in the field and make sure that there's enough for all to avoid fighting....

because atm she's been doing SJing, hunting, and we're hunting this weekend, and doing xc soon. I feed feed and haylage.

The plan is, to have her out on just grass during the day, when her pals are out with her too - then when they went in, about 3, she'd get her haylage alongside her feed in the evening, out in the field by herself. She doesn't suffer from separation anxiety, so she doesn't mind being out by herself.

So coming into late spring and summer, haylage can be cut out, when the grass is better?

I'd give her the feed and the haylage, particularly as the grass is a bit 'empty' at the moment. You'll know to stop giving it if she either puts too much weight on, or starts to leave it.
