I made the big decision and have left the neddies in the nuddy overnight! Anybody else done the same? They have just been in their LWs at night time and naked in the day so it shouldn't be too traumatic - tonight is very mild and they are as nature intended! :D

Also, is anyone else having a MAJOR midge problem? The midges at our place are insane, I guess because we have a small lake, and I have had to smother the horses in repellent. Not cool.

Woo, I have that "first naked night after winter" excitement!
 
I have also left mine out naked tonight, although heavy rain is forecast for a time.They ahve a shelter if can be bothered to use it!
The midges are also driving my boy nuts. I was hoping he would get a couple of weeks of him being naked before having to be covered head to toe, but its looking unlikely.His poor undercarriage is bitten til its bleeding.We have a lot of streams infront of our land and that probably doesn;t help. The muck heap also seems to attract loads, so I feel an insect repellant spraying is due! And, its only march....
 
Mine are out naked now............have been keeping a careful eye on temperature and keep nipping outside to see how cold it is (I`m so soft). Luckily they live on site with us so can run out at midnight if I wanted if I suddenly got a case of the guilts.

Wasn`t happy to see that the temperature is forecast to plummit on Monday night and feel in the minuses again!
 
I think we are due some rain too but they also have shelter if they want it. I'm sorry to hear that it's not just ours with a midge problem! I am really surprised by how bad they are, especially for this time of year, and mine too were bitten to bleeding.

Mine all hate fly spray and smothering them in the midge repellant cream is a lot more effort (though it obviously will get done if I can't get them used to the dreaded spray). The cream is very effective though but doesn't seem to last that long.
 
NAKED?! MIDGES?!?!?!?! Mine are still in heavyweight turnouts and I had a hat and gloves on tonight! And its due to piddle down! Oh I love living in Scotland.........!!!! :-)
 
I've noticed lots of midges here in Shropshire and we're a fair way from water. Mine are still coming in at night and I've just checked the next two week forecast on Metcheck and according to that next Monday will be minus 7 with heavy snow!!! Then the "April Showers" kick in with a vengeance and it looks like we will be getting LOTS of rain for the foreseeable :-(

Most of mine haven't worn blankets all this winter, they are shedding like mad now. We have snow and -6 forecast for Friday (it still being March and all that) I still won't rug them unless they look cold.

I HATE this change over time of year, I'm used to cold temps and don't feel them, and now we get up to 15C, and then back to -6, I am freezing all the time.:mad:

 
My cob cross has been naked all winter bless him! He's had such a thick coat and is now moulting like anything! My warmblood cross is still rugged bless him, still out 24/7 but he's keeping his lightweight sheet on until this weather settles!
