Who else keeps their horses out all winter?
I am being nosey really

My mare lived out 24/7 for most of her life but while on loan has been stabled of a winter, now i am at a yard which allows 24/7 turnout so i will be mostly keeping her out.
So who else is keeping theirs out this winter?

Daisy is for as long as I can persuade at least one other person on the yard to keep theirs out. I'm fairly sure that they all think I'm a bad uncaring owner because the vast majority of them are in for the winter now.

The majority of horses at my yard stay in over winter and most have gone in at night already, if she wants to come in i will bring her in, she does let me know in her own way, there are definitely some out for the duration, my YO keeps hers out the whole year round

All of ours have always lived out 24/7/365 and they couldn't be happier. They do have shelter.

All 3 of mine are out 24/7. I dont even have a stable just a field shelter. Charlie is a t/b so he gets rugged only at night at the mo, the other 2 are native and never even get a rug on, but I am a cold heartless woman. Or so I am told!

Mine are all natives and don't get rugged on the whole either...in fact the ones that are ridden plus my shettie get a low trace clip too...

Mine are out too.
Previously I would have loved to have had the choice, but like a lot of people on yards, we had to adhere to yard rules and they had to be in from November -May.

H is clipped as he gets real sweaty when ridden so is rugged but is a large chap of Suffolk Punch cross Cob and he has never been happier living out 24/7/365

Quarter Horses
Paints
Appaloosas
Arabs
Hanoverians
Thoroughbreds
Connemara
Canadians
Percherons
Belgian

All of the guys above live out 24/7 in super-silly-minus-temperatures.

Mine are in during the day and out at night at the moment as I'm trying to keep their weight under control. As long as the YO doesn't kick up a fuss they will be out 24/7 through the winter. One is a Welsh D and the other is a 17 year old Arab x Welsh B.

Yeah i got lucky moving to this yard last december, we have the option for 24/7, not that i knew this until march this year! but never mind, i know now and my hardy irish cob will be living out this winter

there are a couple of others that stay out all yr round including YO's horses, so there will be horses in nearby fields to keep mine company
Most yards dont give you the choice, like my last yard,it was not an option

Yep he is out 24/7/365 as his arthritic fetlock benefits from the constant moving..... kept in last winter and most of summer (between 2 and 6 hours turnout) and went horribly lame

He is ISH x Welsh D and is wearing a Rambo Duo, just the 100g lightweight outer and will add the liners when he gets colder.... I bought it with the savings from not paying assisted livery

My 3 are out all year. I have a 5yr old ID x tb, a 18 yr old shetland and a 26 yr old appaloosa. They have a 6ft hedge round the field and it is on a slope so they have plenty of shelter. My 26 yr old hates being stabled, gets stressed, won't touch her hay and looses weight.

Mine is out all winter.
They have a field shelter and access to round bale haylage. They have hardstanding to stand on. I really don't see how shutting mine in a stable would make much difference? Apart from they don't run out of hay they can come and go as they please and they may end up a bit muddier.

Unfortunately we don't have the option in the winter. I have brought Spring in for winter now for a couple of reasons. Largely that most of the others are in now and Spring is very good at letting me know what she wants and she was a bit miserable out at night. She is a funny beggar and likes to be out but will scream her head off to come in when the mood takes her.
I'd like the option of 24 hour turnout in the winter but knowing my mare she would probably want to be in by now anyway!

I have two TB's that share a field with my two friends horses, a highland and a TBx. The highland and my mare will be out all winter. My mare hates being in, think there must be some native in there somewhere as she is pretty hardy. My gelding and my friends tbx mare will come in when its really bad - my lad just stands at the gate and looks pathetic if left out in the rain and cold....

did think about keeping him out 247 whilst at old yard where others did but ive moved him now and i love the routine and knowing he is in at night, i used to hear the rain lashing down and worry and feel guilty. not helpful but just my thoughts haha!
