24/7?

When you all say they are in, are you refering to in at night or in all the time?
My horse gets turned out during the day for about 6 hrs in the summer, as from next week he will just be out for about 2-3 hrs a day and then our fields will get shut completely from around December until Easter, so he'll be in 24/7.
My pony is out 24/7/365 as she box walks like crazy and becomes demonic, if she is out then she resumes her angelic status!

All mine have always lived out. Had a few different types happily live out (anglo arabs / WB etc.). My current horses live out all year round: a Lusitano x TB who came from Portugal (so very chilly for him up in NE Scotland!), a Welsh Sec D and 2 smaller natives. All are rugged depending on their needs, all are fed, they have permanent access to 2 shelters / stables and get as much hay as they like. The Luso x TB and the Welsh D are also hunter clipped now, yet still live out perfectly fine.

I have a Suffolk Punch X. Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with arthritis in both hocks, along with the arthritis and ringbone that I knew he had in his near fore. He was often stiff and lame. Since the beginning of June, he has been out 24/7 and is the best I have seen him for ages. My sharer had a lesson on him yesterday, and he was moving so freely, it was quite amazing. Hopefully, he will stay out all through the winter providing he copes ok.

TB and two shetlands, out 24/7. I don't see why any horse should need to live in without good reason, as long as they're rugged well and have access to good shelter and ad lib hay/lage even TBs can thrive. Its much healthier IMHO.

all my arabs live out 24/7
access to lare field shelter and ad lib hay or haylage plus hard standing area.
rugging may be required if its wetandcold

all mine live out 24/7/365. They have access to 3 field shelters/stables and adlib haylage. They are well rugged and 3 of them will be fully clipped out this winter.

All of mine prefer to be out even in the worst weather. They are happier and healthier for it.

Mine has lived out every winter bar one since i've had him. normally he's fully clipped, appropriately rugged and in full competition work. this year he's retired so unclipped for the 1st time. he's a Welsh D and would much rather be out than in.

Out all the time, 3 cobs ranging from 11 to 18, and a cob foal. My l/w cob will be clipped and rugged, and I think the old mare will need rugging as she isn't putting out much coat, and I don't want the weight to fall off her whilst still lactating. The super hairy traditional boy will have a low clip and no rug, and the foal will have to be tough and deal with it! I keep telling her that as she's 3/4 Section D things could be a lot worse, she could be on a Welsh mountain, not a Dartmoor hill!

They have a barn for shelter (they ignore it) and we are lucky that our ground is free draining.
