Went to see a 3.5ton wagon at weekend. It was on a year old chasis and had a locker, little cooker and seat at the back. The price was 25K ... does that sound about right? I only wanted to spend 15K but I don't want an old shed either?

Is it a new build? I think you would be paying for the chassis, as its nearly new. But for that price i would expect v high build quality aswel. We are having a 7.5 tonne built on an 02 reg and its costing less than that.

Have you go a link?

Our brand new build on an 'R' reg chassis was less than that, all be it it was only 1k less! But is a 3 horse, with fully fitted living, tack locker etc.

Have you had the unlaiden weight checked aswell? If not i would, and i personally would not pay 25k for a 3.5t!!

One of my friends has just bought a brand new Renault Master conversion on an 02 plate, designed and painted as she wanted for slightly under 15k. (from a horsebox coversion place in Blackpool)

Think 25k is very expensive.

That sounds a horrific new build. My hubby does horsebox conversions and on a 3 year old chassis, low mileage and a new Ifor Williams container on the back he's charging under £10K with tax and full years mot for a 3.5Tonne box. Sounds a hell of a lot of money to me.

I think £25k is expensive. My friend & I bought a new conversion on a 2 year old chassis for just under £20k. Also be careful with the load weight, things like cookers etc can really eat into the weight available for your horse(s) - is okay if you only ever travel one but might be close to limit for 2, on a 3.5t you're better with as few 'extras' as possible.

How many miles has the chassis done? and is it a new conversion, or was originaly built as a lorry?
I paid 18 for mine which was a new conversion on a 02 plate. The quality is very good though (we saw some HORRID ones) and it has plenty of head height- alot dont.

A friend of mine has just taken delivery of a new build Marborough direct from the factory.....& if what he's telling me is true he didn't pay anything like £25k for it. I think the one you are looking at is well over priced. Put in a call to Marlborough about their prices...it's only the cost of a call?

Dependent on the year of the chassis and the quality of the build I would not class 25 K expensive . If its a good coachbuild on a real decent fairly new chassis then the price seems fair- look at the prices for equicruiser, theault and ketterer at the top end of the market, they are all building on newish chassis and upto euro 3 emmissions for the greater london zone.

Chaigley do a great 3.5 tonner their main agent is andrew saywell at select horseboxes - www.horseboxes.com
