Happy Birthday old lad. My golden oldie was 27 a few days ago. Looking his age now sadly, but happy and eating well. I just treasure every day he is with me and have an open mind along with prayers for a summer that is not roasting hot because he can't cope with hot days anymore.

He’s been on Rowan Barbary Ready Mash Extra for a few years now, he has just under a level scoop (before soaking), about 50g of Winter glow, summer shine, and a glug of oil. He only gets fed once a day but does get ad lib hay.

Must be the Devon air that does it! I ride a 27 yr old and he looks good too. Well done on keeping him so well and happy for so long.

How do you get them to 29? I've gotten her to 28 but it will take a bloody miracle to get to 29. I keep asking myself what I could have done better.

He had a close call imo a few years back as I had taken into account his age, he got very chilled in snowy weather and stopped drinking, then picked up in infection - dropped about 100kgs in a week. I always used to struggle to keep the weight off when he was younger.

My lad had issues with drinking in the cold weather, Saracen Recovery was a revelation. Made into a warm squash the old lad gulped it down. It is not cheap but well worth keeping in the feed room.

Happy birthday Harley. He looks amazing. Credit to your care and love and his good genes! And that you've had him for 24 years, that's lovely. I have one who will be 29 in September whom I've had for 22 years.

There is nothing quite like owning a horse for such a long time! He looks amazing <3
My girl is 28 and I have owned her for almost 20 years, since she was 8 and I was 11. We were just babies! I dread the day when she isn't in my life anymore, and I'm just thankful for everyday that she is well and feisty like she's always been!

Happy Birthday Harley. I have one who's 23 years old but he doesn't know it. We take him to the occasional show, which he loves & I'm sure he feels 14yrs old. People at the shows as his age & can't believe he's 23. I suppose you're as old as you feel & he just feels so damn good.

Happy birthday Harley!!
my first horse was a coloured called Harley too.
I lost him, still looking pretty damn good to colic (otherwise still healthy) in his late 30’s

I just wish they lived for ever. Each morning and evening I look after the old boy asking him if he is ok. I tell myself I am prepared for the inevitable. I know if the summer is hot we are in trouble, yes he has had a long and well loved life but as much as I tell myself I am prepared, I know I am not.
