Ok, so considering I probably do need a new saddle...
I currently have two Bates saddles (dressage & jumping). I can't be without my dressage saddle, as dressage is MY passion :p If push came to shove, I'd do without a jumping saddle or buy 2nd hand synthetic so I could stop horse from getting bored with circles ;)

But, I usually use crewe saddlery, and they no longer stock 2nd hand saddles, or only a small number if they do.
If I bought 2nd hand, I could afford (potentially) a nice saddle - Amerigos and Jaguars are gorgeous! But I'd need something that would hopefully last, and obviously main priority is fit. So I don't just want to buy off ebay!

Any that come highly recommended??

Whereabouts in Cheshire are you? If close enough, you should try Anita at Colberry Saddlery (at Foxes Riding School Wirral). She is great and has quite a few second hand saddles
 
I would not worry there I think you will find all/most will travel to and charge you petrol expenses it is more usual for them to come to you, than the horse to come to them.

Thanks :) Yep, I'm fine with that, it just seems that a few don't advertise the fact that they travel and I do know some will only fit if you go to them! Confusing.

I had Katie Topping out to fit refit my lads. It cost a little extra for the milage but in my opinion it was well worth it. She took her time checking him over and the saddle, explaining everything to me as she went along. She is a master saddler and can be found on their associations website with her contact details.

ETS: she travels out to you hence cost for milage

She sounds good, being a master saddler means she surely must be! (gives me some confidence :p) Can you tell me where she's based? Does she stock a range of 2nd hand (dressage) saddles?? :)
 
and I speak from experiance too so you do surprise me,
David who is a master saddler was recommended to me by my horses physio and as a result my horses back problems were a thing of the past.
When I changed horses my saddles were altered and now also fit beautifully on my new horse.

The main problem with him is you have a long waiting list to be seen as he is so popular.
 
I'm also looking to get a second hand saddle fitted for my horse and have rang round a few people. Chester Saddlery were very helpful and sound like they have a good selection so going to try them. Sounded like they could come out reasonably quickly too.:)
 
I would highly recommend Vaughn at Chester saddlery as a few other have said. Having purchased 3 saddles from him I do speak from experience :D

yes he will come out to you, if you want to keep your current saddles but you think they do not fit he will see if he can adjust them for you, he will part ex saddles and has a good selection of second hand ones.

Oh and also you will find him listed on the master saddlers website.
 
Yup will back up what Bedbug and others say. Vaughn at Chester has a really good range of second hand ones and will help sell your old ones on for you too if they are saleable. Thoroughly nice guy.

They have another branch at Aberconwy and if you search under that you'll find them easily.
 
I like Tony French he does pony saddles, dressage, GP and jumping saddles. He's got loads to choose from and they're always realistic prices. He's done a few for me and always allows plenty of time for you to try the saddle out. He travels all over the place as he does lots of teaching too.

Vet reccomended him to me years ago as I was having saddle related problems. He is expensive, sells expensive saddles but I think you get what you pay for.
I bought one for my 4 yr old 8 yrs ago, still have the same saddle, dearer saddles can be tweaked more to fit ever changing horses. Im just waiting for a new saddle from him. Old saddle still going strong, its me it doesnt fit anymore.
