Just wondering what sort of dressage/GP saddles I could get for my £500 (max) budget?

What would you recommend for my 16.2hh ISH?

I am sick of my Wintec 500 GP and would like to get leather one which fits us both better.

Any ideas on what sort of thing could be in my budget or what sort of saddles I should look out for?

Particularly after recommendations from other ISH or ID X TB owners

Just bought a brand new Farrington dressage saddle from Ebay for £350!! Absolutely brand spanking new - never even been girthed up! Got my local saddle fitter out to fit it - he was gutted he sells them for £950! Had to make minor adjustment to flocking which cost me with his travelling £60 but still the bargain of the century!!!!!!!

Have you looked at Saddles Direct. Not used them myself but have seen them recommended in the past. I used Bridlepath International who were fab but I bought new so no idea if they do second hand as well. Might be worth a call or email to them.

Have to say I got a super ebay bargain too. gorgeous nearly new nathaniel underwood dressage saddle, (similar to albion SLK) used about 6 times, but no marks on flaps or buckle tabs, for £360. Retail at £1250.

Albion's have both fitted my ISH's well, medium / medium wide fitting with high withers. Decent ones are about £500 on ebay.

Got my stubben jumping saddle off ebay - saved quite a lot over dealers. My GP saddle I got with my WB is an albion and is super comfy with adjustable/removable blocks so really great for all disciplines. I also had one when I used to ride an ISH.

My saddle was £650 new. It's unbranded as the saddler makes them himself, but gorgeous (and could haev been made to measure it fitted the pony that well!)
Might be worth getting in touch with local saddlers, see if they make their own, or have any second hand ones in stock. Then you can try a few out. Plus there's always ebay. Tho I'd recommend seeing the saddle in the flesh as it were before ordering/buying online, in case you don't like it when it arrives!

I am dubious about buying a saddle online TBH. I bought an Albion dressage saddle off ebay about a year or so ago as I went on the sizing of my Wintec. Stupid mistake, but I have learned that different makes can vary size-wise. When I had the fitter out he said there was no way he could make the saddle fit, and also it needed a lot of stuffing etc. Luckily I didn't loose any money on it as I was able to resell it, but am a bit wary of doing this again. Especially as it's going to be a real stretch to afford one anyway

Think I'm better off getting one from BP if they have one that suits and within budget. At least I know the tree will be sound and it will fit correctly.

Gosh, I hope 1st September comes quickly, I'm so looking forward to trying some different saddles and see how it affects his way of going. Only ever owned this Wintec.

I was excited too when I recently upgraded from my wintec dressage to one from BP. They tried loads on and funnily enough ones i thought would be fine were not. The only thing I got right was a medium! lol. We then narrowed down 5 to ride in and I chose from there I didnt even look at the make until I asked what I had bought lol

Good luck

The Albions at dealers tend to be £450-700 but to be honest you'd be better trying to buy off ebay. If it is not as described you can get your money back or if it would require too much adjustment to fit then you can put it back on ebay for a minimal loss or sell privately and get your money back. I know someone who picked up a good quality Albion for £350 from ebay.

Thanks, if I were buying with cash I'd probably try ebay again but it's going to have to go on the plastic, so don't want to mess around with ebay if a sale goes wrong.

Mardy - ooh, do you mind me asking what you got and (cheekily) how much it cost? Can PM if you'd rather?

I use BP, and although not the cheapest, they are very good. If you have let them know your budget, they will do what possible to find one for you. They have a HUGE range 2nd hand, so sure they will find something for you
