I am doing my 2nd ever HT tomorrow, same venue as last time but 2ft 3 instead of 2ft. I have just walked the course and most of it was the same as last time except there are a number of types of jumps i've never jumped before and I'm a bit scared

1. Is a tiger trap, not high but quite wide.
2. One that is barely 2ft high but is about 2ft 6 wide and has white tyres on the top - spook city!
3. 2 strides after number the one above you go into the water and up 2 steps (think I'm ok with this) and then it is a sharp left for the last step

4. Last one I'm worried about is a solid trianguar fence (don't know what it's called) that is a very generous 2ft 3.

Please someone give me the proverbial kick up the backside!

Thanks

Consider your backside kicked!

You and George will be fantastic! You both keep getting better and better and tomorrow will be no different. I expect photos tomorrow!!!

You'll be fine

From the pics I've seen your horse is more than capable, and so are you.

Just ride positively to your fences and have a great time. As for the width, he'll make the spread easily - they jump much wider than that over an ordinary fence.

Good luck

Good luck GG - you will be fine. Don't think about the height/spread of the fences, George won't notice they are a smidge bigger than last time - just enjoy yourselves, ride positively and believe in yourself!

You will be fine. Just keep on remembering the sense of achievement you felt after doing so well at the last one. Keep looking ahead and not down at the jumps and George will take you over. Most of the time it is us that are scared of the fences not the horses!!

I am sure tomorrow evening you will be posting a lovely happy smiley report.

Good luck and most of all have fun. X

1. really look how much ground a horse covers when they jump an upright - 4 of our strides so a wider jump is really not a problem
2. width see above, spook city - positive trot, sit up legs legs legs and picture yourself the other side of the fence
3. trot the steps and then the turn will not be a problem
4. last fence, plenty of leg again and just picture yourself going over the finish line, the feeling of satisfaction will be great so just go for it and ride that last fence

as pideon says really:

collect your own thoughts before 'your' scary ones particularly the steps with sharp turn so you have your reins in order. Remember your fears are not George's ones! And just kick on.

I think walking the course can be quite frightening itself as you stand next to the fence and measure it against your leg and then panic. I did a clear round xc last week and didnt walk the course as hacked over on my own and a bit later I drove back and was amazed to see the height of some of the fences we had tackled on a last minute decision (we could try any of the 2ft 3 - 3ft options as we went round). I even jumped a hanging pole fence with a huge ditch underneath - at the time I never saw it but had I walked the course I would never have chosen to jump it. I think most horses love xc and love going forward and dont actually see the things that scare us.

Good luck and look forward to reading report tomorrow!

Oooooh, so jealous - will be very cross if you don't have fun and throw your heart over each fence!

I had plans to go and do our second tomorrow, but got back from Sweden a week a go, and found that Gully has got pretty fat and unfit after only 2 weeks in a very grassy field, and he has also put a bit more into splint that I thought was fully formed, so no hunter trials for us for a bit

Good luck - you won't need it!
