2yo to late to have bits off ?

My boy was 2 in December, is he to old to get done? I realise it will take six months or so for hormones to calm down, he has never been used, would this be fair on him?
 
Don't see why not, mine was about 18 months old. He did calm down but I was doing a lot of training too so hard to pinpoint what cause the improvements. He did not put on weight, his head was already weak and his coat was already rubbish, before anyone starts :p
 
It does take a good few months for the hormones to settle down as they are more established or so my vets told me.
If its any help Im having mine done once he is 2- as need him to grow up first!
 
Thanks all he is a lovely boy but is just starting to get a pain to take out, if will say with 9 out of ten dogs you come across but one in ten will start as play, then turn its all noise but its always young dogs in sure its a dominant thing?

Diesel my Dobe was about 2yrs old when he was done, I wanted to make sure he was fully grown as I didnt want a warlock:D It hasnt changed him at all, his head is the same size its always been and his hind quarters havnt shrunk. He has always had a nice temperment and hasnt become fearful or aggressive and he hasnt got fat either:D.
 
I had my JRT done at 8 years old. My ex-husband would not let him be neutered (some "male" thing, I guess!!), so as soon as husband was an ex-, Scrappy lost his baubles!!

It made no difference to his personality - he was the same dog, just a little lighter! LOL!
 
Mine were rising two. It stopped Bear trying to hump every dog he ever met, made zero difference to Zak and his aggression towards other dogs. Bear has a massive head! We waited to ensure they were fully grown and to be sure that they needed doing. Our older boy isn't because he's never once shown an interest in girls.

I can't understand the hormones are more established thing your vet says: behaviour, yes, but removing the testes removes the hormones whatever age the dog. :confused: It would take the same amount of time for the testosterone to disappear, regardless of age.

That made me laugh, bet you wish you could have done the same to the exhusband as well.:D
 
Copperpot - i find that really interesting as this little lad is half patterdale x jr ,
Our other boy is jr we had him done coz he had a thing about ankles he still has a thing about ankles!
 
Our's will be two in May but we're not getting him done till the summer, our vet advised we get it done when he is two so we're going to book him in to get his boosters.

He doesn't have any behavioural issues, he is good with other dogs and isn't humpy. He is a good dog.

However, he is also a little mutt that no one else will want and as one of out neighbours has a little bulldog bitch they are planning to breed from, we dont want to take any chances with unwanted pups. :D
 
Many moons ago,I had my ESS castrated at 6yrs old. Didn't cause any problems or negative changes in the dog(I cut his feed down a little). It did,however,stop him bombing across Wimbledon Common,towards the road, after in-heat CKS's, with me in hot pursuit,shouting his name at top of my voice&generally suffering what we'd now call a 'Fenton' type moment. That was, unfortunately for him,his last race-across-country-after-the-ladies as 'a man'... I would like to point out,his greatest vice was food tho and he never actually managed to consummate his 'love' before his knackers got chopped off...:D
 
Charlie 77 - tbh it made no difference to the patterdale in terms of temperament. He had never humped any other dogs anyway. He is still as feisty as ever. He has had no problems with gaining weight etc. The only plus was he stopped scent marking up the stables, in Pets at Home etc :)

Just as an aside - do you think there may be any connection to the fact that he is entire, mature and has suddenly started tanking off, as per your other thread? That's why I asked what age he was x
