3.5 horseboxes - what is it classed as on Reg doc?

Intrigued to find out what your box is actually registered as.

Is it on the registration certificate as a:
Box Van
Panel Van
Specially fitted van

These 3 above are allegedly the ONLY 3 'compatible body' type permitted for the taxation class of 3.5t vans, nothing else is acceptable.

Or, have you actually got it registered as something else? (like Livestock carrier etc).

When we bought our 3.5t, I rang the DVLA and explained the situation as regards the change of use/conversion to a horsebox. I had to send photos of it and then the DVLA sent me a new Registration document with the vehicle list as a horsebox. Perhaps youcould try ringing them. Hope this helps.

I have indeed phoned them today & have been told categorically that there is NO listing for horsebox under the 3.5 weight.
I remember the 'discussion' we had when I downsized from my FL10 to a little 5.5 Atego - purpose build horsebox & the ding-dong between 'camper' and box van ensued for a few weeks till we had it eventually resolved and registered as 'horsebox'.
Just wanting a bit of concter evidence as ammo at present before I tackle them tomorrow (again)
Its only taken them 7 weeks to get round to denying the 'horsebox' category

Mines classed as a livestock carrier - if this is the case it is important to check with your horsebox insurance that they are ok with this - mine were fine but its best to check.

NB mine was clearly once upon a time a refridgerated van so has def been changed to livestock carrier classification upon conversion to horsebox.

Mines registered as livestock carrier, it's 20 years old and was built as a Horsebox (not converted) if that makes a difference?

Another phone call today to them & they INSIST it cannot be a horsebox or livestock carrier, there is 'no category' for LGV taxation class (3.5t) .... allegedly according to the woman on the end of the phone

LGV categories start at OVER 3.5 tonnes

ROG - Light Goods vehicle = not exceeding 3,500kg revenue weight
HGV is now in excess of 3.5
These categories have been in since 2001 mister

Thats odd cos my landrover (110 hard sides with no windows, ex utilities) is classed as an LGV and thats under 3.5T. Taxed as one too (which is handy!)??

Mines down as body type 'box van'. Taxation class says 'light goods vehicle'. Revenue weight 3500kg.

Not sure will have to check but it's a merc sprinter and I know it says LGV and was told not to change as no cheaper for road tax so have left it as it is - was an I ado del vehicle in Prev life

My sisters is a 'box van'. She had the conversion done herself having bought the chasis of a Movano (?) van and this is what they re-registered it as.

Licence categories are LGV over 3.5 tonnes

TAX categories can be ... get this ...
LGV over 3.5 tonnes (Large Goods Vehicles)
LGV under 3.5 tonnes (Light Goods Vehicles)

So everyones right!! Both under and over 3.5T (but under 7.5T) is LGV, but a different 'L'.
