Anybody any clues on how much i'd have to pay? Will be 18 in March (going to wait till then so its cheaper) , and passed my driving test last week. Think we are already with Anthony Evans and we currently have anybody over 25 with 5 years no claims, and we're looking at just adding me as a named driver. Any idea if this is possible or any recommendations of other insurance that will insure and 18 year old? Only going to be used for going 5 min down the lane when my dads not here to take me as he works away alot so I cant go to regular shows or lessons. Thanks in advance!

Insured at 19 on new build 7.5ton box (after taking cat C) approx £850 so cheaper than that I guess! :). Was hard to find someone to insure a sub 21/25yo but imagine this would be easier on a 3.5tonner and perhaps even more so if you've had it a few years and it's got a lower value (though I know this isn't always the case on cars) :) I remember someone on here saying it was cheaper to insure their daughter on 3.5 tonne box than her average (can't remember exact make and engine size) car! :)

ETA I *think* policy is with Brightwells if memory serves me correctly :)

As it seems you are not going to be driving it very much then would you be better being a named driver on someone elses policy - perhaps your mum or dads ??

Sorry to barge in! I have the same question .... looking into buying an older 3.5tn lorry, i'm 19, been driving for a little under 2 years with no claims in that time, would it be cheaper to insure this than a 4x4 and take towing test?

Thanks :)

Ring Anthony D Evans if you are already with them I'm sure it won't cost huge amounts to add you. I'm with them, I'm 21 and it was just under £400 for me for a 3.5t as the main driver. Probably be a bit more for you as you are 18 but not a stupid amount :)

I could be wrong but I remember watching Top Gear & they did an item on car insurance for young drivers. I would think that this would transfer across onto horsebox insurance as well.

They found that it was cheaper to insure a vehicle as a young driver if you actually put your parents down on the policy as named drivers (the policy being in your name & you being main driver). I don't know why, & they couldn't really explain it either but it somehow brought the premium down.
