Hi so now that we have the horse we are looking at getting a horsebox. We want a 3.5 tonne and a the headroom on some seems very low. She is currently 15.2 but we are working on the basis that as she is only 5 we are looking for a box a horse of 16h/ 16.1. We are looking at one this evening that has an internal headroom of 7ft 5 which seems ok, but a lot seem to be 7ft or just under but advertised as taking horses up to 16.2? Just wondered what other people currently use?

The other thing to consider is head height going up the ramp.
Internally there is plenty of room in mine, previous owner travelled a 16.2hh in it fine. But she had to teach the horse to duck on the way in, as the headspace at the top of the ramp going in to the box isn't as high. (Hope that makes sense!)

Many coachbuilt 3.5t have headroom of 7'8'' and above, mine is almost 8' and takes enormous horses which are a bit squashed in bigger lorries
The van type ones are obviously a lot lower
I prefer barn doors for the top half of the ramp as well for this reason
