we are looking for i just wondered how many of you have one and model you have tips on buying etc
We have looked at alexanders yorkshire who advertise alot on horsemart

I used to have one. A Bedford. Tips on buying would be get an RAC check over, pricey but worth it. The most important thing for me in a lorry is a good floor, if they say it has been replaced I want receipts to prove it. A sturdy ramp that I can operate on my own is also important. I had one ramp I didn't test and i couldnt do it alone - not very useful.

I've got a 3.5ton LDV. Its not posh or particularly smart but it is safe and sturdy, had twin axles at the back so is probably safer than one of the single axle lorries, loads of storage and weighs 3.1tons fully laden with one horse in (which is all I need!). It is also (toiches wood!) cheap to maintain and repair, and easy to drive

Most of Alexanders ones are on the Vauxhall Movano or Renault, they are quite nice - we went to look at his place at Boroughbridge but he didnt seem to have an awful lot there to look at (compared to all the pics he has on horsemart ALL the time!), I think he may have the majority of them at the York garage.

You have to seriously consider what you intend on carrying in them though, you won't be able to legally carry two horses as there isn't enough payload at all. One horse and a pony or two promise will be fine.

I wasn't keen on the way of getting the top part of the ramp back down to close it - it seem to rely on attaching a bit of rope to it so i think they could look at designing that better or having the split, barn type opening top instead of the one they do have that opens upwards.

I don't know if he makes them to your design spec (don't see why not) as we felt the ones we saw they could have made a bit better use of the storage as there appeared to be a fair bit of wasted space - ie where bits were boxed in as opposed to being a storage part.

We have a 57 plate renault master - low mileage - in build at the moment - great payload and superb quality build - even though i say it myself . :-))

It will be fitted with a small day living area - sleeps 2 , 2 ring burner, sink, wardrobe, saddle and bridle storage, metallic paint and leather upholstery inc Cab - the Upholstery and paint colours can still be chosen.

Most of our 3.5 tonners are sold before they are finished. Priced at £22 995 plus vat. PM me for more details.

I have a twin alxe transit which has never let me down , abit of a work horse really. Again not the prettiest of boxes but does the job. Its got enough room for 2 larger horses but im not sure the payload will be enough. I only took 1 small horse on it so it was never a prob.
perfect for pony club or the 1 horse owner really. shame i have to sell it really

I have an VW LT35, old but super reliable and a proper workhorse. Not had it weighed but only carry one max 15.2 so not too concerned. It is a lovely old coachbuilt lorry which horses travel in really well, and loads of storage in the Luton.

I have two, (long story!) and both are Ford Transits, both double wheels at the back (please dont anyone use one that has single - i have seen some that have been converted and they are not suitable!) anyway, i love them

the latest one i have is a longer wheel base and its fab as i have a larger 'living area' (not that you get that much space!)

i guess the main thing is, go for a real conversion rather than one someone has had some fun with DIY with!
