3.5t Conversion - Loves labour finished!

My work is done :D:D:D:D
Completed at 7.34pm on saturday, first run out was 9am sunday :eek:
I've had it independently valued but would be interested on what you all think it is worth before I reveal.
The horse in it is 15.2hh and has a a good 3 feet sapre length so a 17.2hh would easily fit. You can also see the headroom available in one of the pics.

It does look amazing and a very pretty pony to match.

I know nothing about value but having had a quick browse of classifieds then it has to be upwards of £10k
 
Juno it is SO smart, you must be very pleased with the finished product :)

I'm certainly no expert, but it has a good payload, is well finished, a good age (don't know mechanically) I'd say 15K

Can I just ask did you reinforce the bulkhead? Safety is one of my top priorities if I ever save the ££ to buy, so want as much info as possible :)

Thankyou, yes I am. very satisfying to know it is ALL my work. Not one area has been done by anyone else and many of the parts I fabricated such as ramp gates, partition etc.

Most definitely! It has a very strong bulkhead then a second lattice work of re-inforcement followed by another skin and then EVA board. No way is a horse going to kick through it. ;)

Excellent thanks. I'm not looking to buy right now (still saving) but the ads I do read often mention nothing about the bulkhead :confused: it really worries me some of the things on the road :(
 
That looks really great! When can I put my order in?! I'd say you'd be looking at advertising at around 14-19k... It's a really great little box. Well done (and I'm 100% serious if you fancy doing another!)
 
Do you mind me asking what your actual day-job is ? surely you must be a professional coachbuilder rather than a good DIY'er ?
 
Ah well done Juno, he looks as smart as :) you've done one corker of a job! :D Judging by the prices atm you would be looking £12k+ (more likely £15k Id say)
 
Wow, I've been following your posts and the finished result looks amazing! I would say you'd be looking at making at least a £10k profit on it, so £15k - 20k?

I'm trying to get my dad to take on the same project with me, as I'd love a smaller box. He built our 7.5 DAF himself - converted it from an ex water board lorry, so everything was done from scratch, but not sure we could use the facilities that we used before...

Did you have a barn or workshop that you had access too?

Maybe you could write a guide book on how to make these type of lorries, and then sell it!!
 
The thing I like best about yours is the fact that the horse bit and the groom bit is completely seperate so no jumping through, and no hay on your stuff!
I have seen rubbisher ones advertised for 18k so not a clue really!
 
That box is lush!

I'm not a fan of them either normally, mainly the safety aspect of the driver being kicked in the back (but you've sorted that one) and the horse jumping into the tack area, which they clearly can't with yours either.

I'm guessing, that due to the chassis age, you'd be marketing this at around £20-23k.

Like HammieHamlet, I wish my Dad had gone into business converting lorries as he did a fantastic conversion of a 3.5t Transit luton lorry about 20yrs ago. He had about 30 phone calls about it in the first week!
 
Fantastic looking box, wish my OH would devote his mechanically abilities to making me a horsebox rather than tinkering with his car!!

I also like the fully seperated horse area and living area - OH transported one yearling colt recently that had a near fatal accident climbing through from the horse area to the living (tiny) area in a 3.5 tonne box - fire services had to cut the horse out, and the vets were adamant the horse was going to have to be PTS due to the intense thrashing around and physical position it was in - miraculously unscathed now, but a very near miss.
 
That does look fantastic, however going against popular opinion I have a 3.5 tonne conversion (no where near as nice as that) but I love the way my mare has so much extra room as she can put her head over into the living, it may make a mess with hay but she seems to love it

I'll take that as a compliment but you're way off the mark. I earn the daily crush as an I.T. Manager so basically fix computers and develop software etc.
I just love building things. My last big project was rebuilding a full size glider from a write-off. That only took 700 man hours and I still remember the feeling when I did the test flight.

I'm quite proud of timmy but more importantly OH is over the moon with the way he has turned out. I dont think she really believed I could do it to the standard.

Wow, that's amazing! It's a lovely box, very smart and as others have said the separate horse/groom areas are brilliant.

If I ever get any kind of decent wage I will join the queue to put in my order ;)
 
I love it, fantastic job!! I'll be looking for a little lorry like that next year but unfortunately my budget will not stretch to anywhere near that amount, maybe I could persuade my Dad to do a conversion :p :D
