Is there such a box that could possibly carry a horse of up to 17.2hh??

Ive seen a few boxes as stating they can carry 16.2hh but I cant find anywhere that says anything over 16.2?!

I have looked at the internal height of an Ifor williams 510 which is 7'7" (for 17.2hh) and the internal heights of most 3.5t boxes are about 7'1,2 or 3. I have found a VERY nice 3.5t at and internal height of 8ft but its WAY over my budget!! lol

Now my horse is 16.1hh and is 3 next month....how much more do we think she will grow....its kind of putting a dampner on my box hunting!!

Any ideas?!

Thanks :D

I think some of it also depends on the length of the horse and their head carriage.

My 17.2hh is very comfortable in my Rice trailer and he generally has a lower head carriage.
My friends 16.1 hh doesnt look happy in their at all but she holds her head like a giraffe!

I know thats not much help but it is very hard to tell whether or not a horse will fit :)

I know what you mean, I was trying to describ that to my OH!

My filly has travelled in a 505 with no partition and was fine.

She takes a 6'6 rug so im looking for length of about 6'9 +...I think...or 6'6 but as she will only be travelling by herself put the partion on the skew...does that make sense?!

The Renault Master / Vauxhall Movano conversions that stay looking like a van can have their roof taken off and replaced with an 'extra high top'. I've seen pics of 17handers fitting in these.

My donor van had a 'medium' roof when it arrived and the horsebox company replaced it with a 'high' roof as part of the conversion.

We have a Vauxhall Movano long wheel base conversion.

My sisters horse is 17.2/3hh and wears 7' rugs and he goes in it fine. We got the long wheel base cause of him though! :)

I have a movano van conversion with extra high top - apparently it's supposed to fit 17hh in, but when I had my old boy in, who was only about 15.3hh he looked huge in it because he had a really long neck and body, but my 16.2hh mare who is short coupled, short necked and pretty little head looks lovely in it. As someone's already said, it depends on the proportions of the horse. But I really wouldn't want a 17hh horse in!

3 Counties Horseboxes in Tenbury Wells do a Hi-Top van conversion for larger horses.

I have one of their standard van conversions and I love it. Give them a call - they were very helpful to me and are quite happy for you to go and have a nosey round the workshop and a test drive.
